    Default Polk Audio Floor Standing Speaker (RTIA7) as rear or back speakers in 5.1 or 7.1 sys

    I am currently building a system that will last in my house. I now have:
    • Polk Audio Floor Standing Speaker RTIA7 as my front speakers;
    • Polk Audio 12" Powered Subwoofer (PSW125)
    • Polk Audio Centre Channel Speaker (CSI A6)

    My question is this:

    Would it be benefical to me to buy another set of Polk Audio Floor Standing Speaker RTIA7 as rears for 7.1 and Polk Audio Surround Bookshelf Speaker (FXIA4) for sides, or are the RTIA7's to powerfull for rears?

    What if I just went with the RTIA7's as rears for a 5.1 system and didn't bother with the FXIA4 at all?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    It's not that the Rtia7's are 2 powerful, it's correct placement that I don't like about using anything on the floor for rears.

    Now building a 5.1 system, you should try to get the speakers on the side walls at 72 inches to the tweeter when mounted on wall slight behind your ear when sitting. 7.1 same rear placement with surround back mounted at 72 inches 2 to 4 feet apart on back wall behind you. Depending on room width , the surround back channels should be close together.

    For a dedicated music only 5.1 system, I can get a full on floor system to work with correct placement and no room boundaries problems. It's difficult but can be achieved.

    I was on the same path, and at the same point, just today, too. I picked up a pair of Cherry A9s , and have one "extra" A9 in Black (long story). I was wondering if it would be easier to just pick up another A9 in black (and duck repeatedly, until my wife's clip was empty!). I used to know that about the height, too. Thanks, Mantis, for the reminder.

    Problem solved.... I just picked up a pair of FXi4 and have decided to go with the 5.1 system for now. Might pick up some Ai3's after Christmas for rears and then go 7.1.
