Default Just picked up my first SRS

Well, I've previously owned the SDA-1Bs and 1Cs and enjoyed them immensely. I no longer have either but just tonight came across a great deal (I hope) on a pair of SDA-SRS. One driver is out, however (midrange) and it will need to be replaced. I'm guessing they used the MW 6502 driver? Is this correct? And, to anyone's knowledge does Polk still carry these or am I better off picking up a pair used? Thanks in advance for any knowledgeable replies.

    Regards,

    Dave

    They should be MW6503's

You can find them on ebay.

I could be wrong but doubt it, the 6503 and 6509 are the same. That info may help your chances finding used MW's if you choose that route.

All the MW drivers have different characteristics both electrically and sonically. That's not to say certain models can't be substituted in a pinch but it's always best to keep the originals the same. Especially if your dealing with a dim driver vs. a stereo driver.

Between ebay, the forum and Polk one should be able to replace originals with the same.

There IS a reason they used different model drivers in each model and/or generation.

I understand what your saying but my drivers are labeled 6503 and another one under it 6509. I'll bet the only difference is the label.

What position are the drivers in; dimensional or stereo? Which model(s) are you talking about? Depending on the model those might be incorrect. Believe me.......the MW drivers are ALL different. Some differences between MW's are more than others.

Many times the biggest differences between MW drivers is 8 ohm or 4 ohm. I think you can see things can be altered if you replace one with the other.

Again one can probably get away with "substituting" one similar MW for another but they are not the same and not all MW's are interchangeable with each other. I know Polk has made a couple recommendations in the past when a particular MW driver was no longer available.

They are all the same in my SRSII's all mw6503's with labels under the 03's reading MW6509.
My concern is am I running the right drivers. I know the previous owner didn't screw up, he's too damn smart!
Maybe I should call Ken and ask.
    Thanks H9

I understand your concern and a call to Ken will certainly get you the right advice/info.

    Blade/Blade SRS 2's should have (4) MW6509's

PIN/Blade SRS 2's should have (2) MW6511's for stereo drivers and (2) MW6510's for the SDA drivers.

    Good luck Drew :)

    H9

P.s. Can't say I've ever heard about drivers having references to 2 different model #'s.

As requested. The driver I (obviously) need to replace is the one on the top right of the right speaker. The owner replaced it with a <gasp> Yamaha driver.

Funny thing on these is it was strictly an impulse buy as I really don't even have the room for them with already having a pair of huge Dunlavy SC-IVs, Digital Phase AP-4s, Infinity IL-60s, McIntosh XR-6s and Apogee Centaur Minors. My wife is ready to kill me! But when I saw them on CList at a verrrry good price I had to get them (audio addict). Time to start thinning the herd again...

There's a first time for everything and your SRS's may just be the pair you hang on to for a lifetime.

    Drew,

    The MW6509's belong in First Generation Blade/Blade SRS 2's & SDA-1B's

Those are the only two speakers that had the MW6509's

If you have them in another model then that driver is not supposed to be there.
