    Default lsi15 with onkyo tx-sr606

    Hey yall,

just joined the forum and have a question that I need to have answered real quick on if I should cancel my order for some Lsi15 speakers.

I have a North American verison of the Onkyo Tx-sr606 and just became aware that it does not support 4 ohm.

So my question to you guys is will I need to get an amp right away, will an amp even work with my reciever, and lastly what would you recommend for a good amp for these speakers if it is possible.

Sorry bout all the questions, I'm definitely a n00d when it comes to this stuff, willing to learn thou.

It's good you checked...the 606 is a very poor option. It doesn't have pre-outs, so you can't add an amp. An AVR with pre-outs and a high current amplifier are HIGHLY recommended. Very few AVRs can remain 4 ohm stable and deliver enough current to make the most of LSi speakers.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO

    Oppo BDP-83SE

So, say I sell my tx-sr606 and go with a tx-sr706 and wait till I got a lil more green in my pocket, would I be able to get by without an amp for the time being or will they sound like crap?

I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I guess I should have been more clear, I need a receiver that has hdmi switching based on the home theater aspect of my current system set up.

Since I already spent 300+ on the TX-sr606 I'm looking to spend under 600 for a receiver that can get me by for the time until I get an amp to go with the lsi15's.

Currently looking at Tx-sr706 or the Tx-sr806. Also open to other suggestions.

The 806 is the better option. It will work and the LSis will sound good. Start saving for an amp though...and watch out for heat. From what I've read, the Onks run hot mostly due to the video functions, but running 4 ohm speakers will create more. Make sure you're well ventilated or use a fan. An amp will take the strain off, increase dynamics and you'll enjoy your speakers more.
