Default IS IT WORTH MY MONEY OR TIME TO UPGRADE THE fX300I TO FX150

    HI

Sorry to bother , but here it goes anyway's. Currently my back center rear speakers are the Fx300i and plan on replacing them with the FX50i since the side surrounds are the FX500i, this way all 4 rear spakers will be mostly the same, and closer timber.

I bought the 300 at CC and it will cost me about $200 to upgrade from the 300 to the 50's, would I hear an improvement on the sound? Play 60% DVD 20% cd and 20% Radio.

Guy's any advice on wheter the EXTRA $200 WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE AT ALL?

ANY OPINION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

    Thanks,: :D

Personaly I would get rt35's for the rears. I like the direct imageing for rear 6/7 channel. It mimics the front stage. Giving better sound for HT - fly by's - anything the comes front stage to the back stage and vice vera.
PS3 and HD Front Projection, life is good. Too bad Blu-Ray and the PS3 are already obsolete.....

to answer your question though, No i don't think going to the 50's wil yield better sound, The 300 and 500's are already matched, same tweeters .. the 50's are from the next line in the rti series from last year with the new tweeters... The 300's and 500's were just replaced by the 30's and 50's... They actually might not match as well if you move to the 50's.. basically the same speakers.

I also agree with scott on getting direct firing speakers as REAR back speakers, alot of people like the di-pole on the sides and directs on the back center/s..

what you have far as speakers now is all from the RT series and will match nicely with what you have, what you were wanting of course is from the new " i " series and won't match

For me,I like the fx surrounds for the sides and back. Setting the rear back surround in "BIPOLE' mode is a nice compromise between any debate of dipoles vs. directs.

Is it worth the upgrade? Probably not but by looking at the equipment you got, getting the fxi50 gets you that much closer to a complete home theater system.

    You misunderstood faster100.

He's got everything an average guy could possibly have (well maybe some separates) . So where do you go from there ??!

Upgrading to the fxi50 could finish or should I say "balance" his setup ........for now ;)

    Hi begbie

I just about have everything as a so called HT, that is the problem a Audio & Video phile is alway's trying to upgrade and make things a little better. (you hope anyway's)

If I pass up the upgrading period on the 300 in March then decide to get the 50's (500) then have to pay top dollar. I could upgrade and if it doesn't make any significant difference in the sound, perhaps if CC would let me downsize to the 300?? That could work.

What I am trying to do is upgrade the rear speakers, so that all of the 4 surround speakers are the about the same, but on the other hand does the center channel have that much sound out of them to make any significant difference in the sound between the 300 and 500. That's the question.

Thank's for the replies, perhaps someone out there has had the same decision to make if so, would like to hear from you.

    :)

I'f you need to get the 50's before the Circuit city 1 year upgrade is over then by all means... Then you can replace the other rears later to match the new "I " series that you will already have.. ie" the fxi50's,

circuit city will not let you downgrade speakers... I have been buying and using the upgrade offer for years and know what i can and can't do with them,, Thats not one of them

You are right in that the rear center wont be heard enough to tell the difference i don't think, its so fast when sound passes from left to right or vice versa.. people will say you can hear the difference but i beg to differ..

Upgrade away, that year comes fast, i have upgraded my speakers about 6 times in the last year, one time for every speaker set i own, from the whole rt line i had to the new rti line and 2 subs i have had, Its fun, don't let the chance slip away

however you might not be able to tell much difference you will be one step towards the new line which yields, new grills and logo's and most important the new wood exterior unlike the old plastic outsides..

    Hi Faster

It sounds good, but then I would be opening another can of worms. UPGRADE, UPGRADE, my wife will kill me if I started buying more speakers.

Just a thought I am considiring on getting the LSifx for the side surrounds thru the web then moving myFX500i to rear center.

That should be my ultimate speakers.

Now your talking speaker mis-matching, i'f you go lsi and rt lines you will hear a difference.. different tweeters in the lsi's.. I think your barking up the wrong upgrade tree, Thats why i told the other poster that you already had a complete setup and moving to the 50's would not yield a big difference to at all... i'f wanting equal size speakers i would either 1. find another set of 500's or just get the 50's as they are as close to what you already have as you will get without going to far outside the sound matching..

It seems that their is some activity going on on this forum. The 50 are only $240 more, but again do you really think the Ls series is that far of from the i series?

Ditto - confirmed it myself over the weekend. Sonic signature of the Vifa and the silk dome is different. Would be a timbre mismatch. Neither is bad, just different.

    Hi

It sounds like the best thing to do is to buy the fx1000 if it is available somewhere? it is the only one that will match my system.

Sorry begbie, This thread is going in circles and i lost track..
They don't make nor sell the RT line anymore, well atleast the fx1000, 500, or 300's.. best bet is used or get anything in the new line as a closest match... Thats about all can be said...

    Hi, just an update

Ordered the FX500i from pricesrite.com, It seems that they are searching for them? if they don't deliver then the FXi50 from CC.

I should stay within speaker spectrum.

    Thanks Guy's for your input.

Just received my FXI50 for the rear speakers. The rears are located 9 feet behind the sweet spot. It makes a difference in the rooms sound when compared to the FX300i.
