I've read good things about the quality of the Experience Hendrix/MCA rereleases, the ones approved by the family & using original master tapes. Not being very familiar with him, beyond the stuff you alway hear on the radio & the Woodstock concert, I went to a music store that was going out of business & bought their rerelease of "Electric Ladyland" at half price & listened to it on the headphones after the game got out of hand last nite.
Damn it was good! Total sonic orgasm. Well, that's overstating it, but it was something that lived up to the hype.
The latest ABSOLUTE SOUND (Feb/Mar 2003) has a very positive review of the latest from Experience Hendrix/MCA, "Blue Wild Angel: Live at the Isle of Wight". The first time it's been released in its entirety.
For those of you who missed out on the Hendrix experience, no pun intended, the Experience Hendrix/MCA releases may be a good place to start, if "Electric Ladyland" is any indication of their quality.

although Hendrix is a great player I dont think anyone can hold the title to the "best"..even Hendrix ..As far as Isle Of Wight..that wasnt considered one of Hendrix's best performances ..I think they are just running out of good Hendrix material to release and cash in on

You don't happen to have a copy of a double CD of Hendrix called the Singles Album? I picked it up over in Germany and haven't seen it Stateside. It, of course, is a complete collection of all his single releases. I'll have to look it up to be sure but I think there were some one-off tracks on it. (not released on an album) Just curious.

Was that you next to me??? I only wish I'd been there... have only seen Woodstock the movie and other footage of him.

I thought SRV was the one that got closest, but how can any conventional player go head-to-head with JH's "back-handed" technique combined with his enormous raw talent.

SRV pretty well "dup'd" "Little Wing", but never really wanted to compete with the memory, just paying homage.

Now the comparisons run to SRV, e.g., Kenny Wayne Shepard :( , in part 'cause people are forgetting Jimi, but also 'cause I think folks in the know, understand that comparisons to Jimi are ludicrous.

"Ladyland" may be the peek, but by all means follow through. All the "...Experience" releases are worth owning. ;)
Do be careful on te hits collections, one's a good buy (MCA MCAD-10829), one is not. But best to own the original "albums".
"Band of Gypsies"? Now that's a different matter altogether...

I have Are You Experienced? and Electric Ladyland. Still need to get Axis: Bold as Love. Electric Ladyland shows off Hendrix's guitar virtuosity, but I like the songs on Are You Experienced? better. Both sound great on SDAs.

Yeah, alot of channel play there on both CD's, but especially "Ladyland". And it's cleaner, too.

You'll also enjoy what "Axis..." does with your SDA's...

Which SDA's do you have? SRS's here...

Tour2ma, I've got a set of 2As I bought new in 87. I recently added a Hsu subwoofer. The effect on my SDAs' imaging was very noticeable and surprising. I guess it's because the bass/midrange drivers don't have to deal with anything below 90Hz now. I'm hearing detail I've never heard before in recordings with which I'm very familiar.

I don't recall calling Jimi the "best". I just mentioned how he is the one that all the newbies are compared to. Personally, I compare them all, and that includes Jimi, to Frank Zappa. Love the way that boy played the guitar. I have a lot of his stuff, and NONE of it is the "Shut Up and Play Your Guitar" series, which is supposed to be all his great solo's. I don't like THOSE solo's, I like the ones that I like. All a matter of taste.

How did you hook your subwoofer up
to your system? Did you run your left
and right speaker wires into the sub,
then out to your speakers. I've got SDA1-C's with
a Polk 450 subwoofer and that's
the way I hooked mine up. The detail
is fantastic and Hendrix sounds incredible.

MHW, I'm using the LFE output and have the speakers set to small. I may experiment with using the sub's crossover, though.

Polk's website has some great info about hookling up subs.
They recommend running the left and right speaker wires
into the sub, then out to the speakers. You can then experiment
with the sub's crossover. Hooking up a sub is tricky and it
pays to try different methods.
