Rti 6

I am putting together my for ht system and have these speaker coming for fronts. I haven't seen much on here about them and was wondering what to expect. They will be used in a 5.1 system with a sub. Still trying to decide on sub. Going with Energy c-r 100 for surround. Will the Energys sound good with the Polks? One more question. How much better does the CSi A6 sound than the A4? Polk Direct doesn't have the A6 right now but does have the A4 for $150 plus $20 shipping? Is it worth waiting on the A6. Thanks for any info you can give me.

First welcome to the Forum. The rti 6's were replaced by the new RTI A3's. The rti6's are good bookshelf speakers and will work great with either the csi a4 or a6 with the A6's being the preferred center speaker. If possible I would keep it all POLK Audio. You can get some RTIa 1's for the rear from Polk direct for about $150. As far as subs go I would look at the dsw series polk subs. It'll match with your rti6's very well.

The RTi6 is my favorite of the RTi line. I've heard (and owned) most of the line...the 6's are the sweet spot if you ask me - they look great, sound the most balanced, and are affordable (and easy to power!). You will be very pleased with them.

From a technical standpoint the CSI A6 or CSi5 would be the best center to use with these speakers, but speaking from personal experience there is not a huge upgrade in sound from the CSI3/A4. If budget and size are issues (the CSi A6 is enormous) then you should look into the smaller center...it'll still sound great!

As for surrounds, I would try to buy the same brand and line of surround speakers. You can get great deals on RTi4s and FXi3's from ebay (Polkdirect)...why not stick with those? I don't think the energy's will sound bad...but an all-RTi lineup would prob sound better.

I own the Rti8, Rti6 and Rti4 and a csi3.
The 8's are kick ass hooked up to my 200w monoblocks. The rti4 where my rears till last week, now they are resting in storage, while I put together a small2ch. They sound very good. The rti6 are great so far, I know using them as rears is not getting their full potential, but oh well. For now they will stay as rears and perhaps be replaced again my the 4s once my little 2ch is set up. I too would have bought the csi5 but due to it's size could not fit it in the space, so the csi3 , again is great and it too is hooked up to a 200w monoblock. As mentioned you'd be best with all polks for your 5speakers but for sub, which ever you like and can afford.

Thanks for the welcome the help so far. You are a lot of help. The Energy speakers are brand new, so will just have to use them for a while. Maybe next year I can change them out. I will probably go with the CSi A4. I bet I have more questions later on when I start hooking things up. Funny, I was going to get a cheap htib system, then thought about a bose. After all the searching and reading online, now I think I am going to have a decent system for around $1000. Probably go with a cheaper sub and upgrade it later on if I feel the need. Got a Yamaha 6140 for the receiver. Hope it works for what I need. We will use it mostly for watching TV and movies. There are just way too many choices. I have changed my mind a hundred times.

Welcome, I am currently running Rti'6s for my fronts, with a Csia6 center, all powered by a Yamaha-663. Have been very happy with the 6's, great speaker!

Thanks for the help. I paid just under $200 for these speakers. Did I do alright? I am not sure since they are the discontinued model. Saw them on Amazon for almost $400. Since I have never had anything like this, I bet they will sound awesome to me.

Under $200 for the 6's is a deal. The RTi6 are my favorite speakers in the RTi series. With proper amplification, those little bookshelves are amazing. They were my first venture into upgraditis. I still own my 6's and intend on keeping them, even though my main 2 channel rig has modded LSi9's now. Allow them to break in - they do take a while.

Invest in good wire. On the modest budget end, I actually like the RadioShack house wire. Its cheap and has great balance.

I hate to say this, but that Yammie may not be the wisest choice. It is one of the entry level Yammies, and they have a tendency to be bright. See how you like it, but you would likely be happier with an Onkyo or HK. The other issue with your model is it has no facility for preamp outputs for later addition of an outboard amp.

I bought a pair of RTi6 recently. I may not have hundreds of hours of listening time on the 6, but I do have quite a lot on his little brother the RTi4.

My initial impression was that, while the RTi6 has a more abundant bottom end, it is a bit less defined in the lower mids and mid-bass compared to the RTi4.

what are you driving them with? your observation tells me that your amp has an insufficient damping factor and is running out of steam.

I ran the 6s and the 8s biamped from my receiver. Both sounded very very good but the 8s of course were much more.. full?

I think that is the best way to describe it.. just more of the same good rti sound. I was very happy at this point to move the rti6s in back.

I'm driving them with a Nad C320BEE integrated amp which is conservatively rated at 50 wrms per channel. I was far from driving the amp too hard; I'm positive the Nad had plenty of power left.
