Any ipod touch owners?

I know this will make me lose my audiophile card, but yes, I want to get an ipod :o

I am getting rid of XM; I don't like the changes with the merge. So I am thinking of getting an ipod and load some music to listen to in the car. The ipod touch seems a good option. Any pro's and or con's versus other ipods?

My only complaint with the touch (I have an iPhone, but from an iPod standpoint it's the same) is that it's tough to manipulate while you're driving - there's no buttons, it's ALL touchscreen, so you really have to look at it to, say, skip to the next song.

Otherwise it's a fantastic device.

I agree, it's a bit difficult to use while driving. But you get used to it and it is a fantastic device. I'd recommend it.

Very slippery unit. Iphone and Itouch will jump out of your hand. Other than that, they work great. I still can't believe how many apps are available for it. Yes, I have 3G. I use the GPS a lot.

I love my ipod touch. I purchased the 8gb when it first came out and have been in love ever since. The cool thing is they have been adding awesome features every so often since it came out. Looking back at the original one i bought it was a bare bones unit compared to what they have on them now. I love being able to pick up wireless internet, very cool. Im a college student and my whole campus is wireless so for me its badass. I can also sync my college email to it so i can check it with the touch of a button. I now wish i would have gotten the 16gb or 32gb but oh well, when i got it they were very expensive compared to now. Live and learn.

Another cool thing is i have an apple TV. I can use my itouch to control it, which is pretty cool. If you have multiple systems you can sync it like a huge media server and the itouch can be the hub of control for all of it.

That may be true elo, but even using half the stuff is pretty cool.

My wife loves to be able to sit on the couch and have it beep at her when she gets a new email. She can then decide if she needs to reply to it then and head to the computer or just do it later. I bought her a silicon case for it because it is really slippery to just hold and that only set us back about $15. As an iPod it isn't as easy to use as say a Classic or Nano, but the features are super cool. For the car she just creates tons of different playlists and then picks which one she is in the mood for and lets it run.

Go for the touch. I seriously doubt you will be disappointed.

So if it's not worth the money, what would you buy? It seems to me that for roughly $70 more than the nano, it has a lot of additional features that IMO are worth for that money.

If you're going to be using it in your car, and are concerned about handling, you could check out the Harman Kardon Drive and Play, and I belive it works with more than just an iPod/iTouch. I haven't used it myself, but I heard positive comments from somebody I know that has used one.

Or you could look into so way to connect the iPod directly to the car so you could use your Radio controls (or steering wheel controls if you have them) to control the iPod (and see the song on the radio display, etc. for song selections)

Personally, I have an iPod Classic 80GB and just connect the headphone output to the Aux input. And select what i want to play before I start moving or while at a red light. I don't handle it while moving. Volume and Muting is still controlled by the Car radio controls (which is good enough for me).
Note: not all cars have an 1/8 mini aux input. If you have a cassette player still, you could use that with the same quality (It also connects to the headphone output). IMHO avoid the FM re-transmitters at all costs. Simply garbage especially if you have any concern for SQ (using the FM retransmitter wouold definately have an impact on any audiophile card status ;) ).

I'm considering getting the iTouch, not necessarily for the iPod features, since I already have a capable iPod-but because I want to be able to check some websites (ebay/PolkAudio) while sitting on the couch and not constantly sitting in front of the computer.

That Harman Kardon thing looks interesting...and it's on sale at Amazon for less than $30. Not sure if it will work with the 2nd Generation touch...plus, it has been discontinued from Crutchfield; would have to check some reviews to get more info.

I already have an aux in installed on my ar, so no FM static for me.

I never actually looked at how much it costs. The one on Amazon is the 1st gen version. The more recent one is version 2 ($400??).
You might want to just try the Aux in method for now to see how that works out for you. If it makes you feel better you can get an 1/8" mini to 1/8" mini Audioquest cable ;)

i have an older alpine deck in my car. It suprisingly had a place for a digital ipod connection. So i had it installed and the connector to the ipod uses the digital dock port on the bottom of the itouch. So i get fantastic sound AND it charges my ipod. It was like $50 + install

I have an iTouch, an iPod 160GB Classic, and a couple of Nanos (old style and kinda-old style). The iTouch is great and much less expensive than when I bought. However, I like the 160GB Classic in the vehicle. It is, as was mentioned, much easier to manipulate while behind the wheel and you get more storage (if that is a consideration) for the same price. To me, it would depend on how much you are going to use the device out of the car, because the iTouch has all those apps, Wi-Fi, and a much better screen for video.
