Here's a noval idea. Try it out instead of asking if it will make a differance to YOUR ears.

only problem with that is trying to remember what it sounds like with the seat up, then running around, put seat down, and play the tune again and see if you hear a difference :)

sounds a whole lot easier than tuning amps mounted in that area. boy do i wish that was my sound dilema, hmm up, or down. try it a few times. if u have really nice friends u can ask a them 2 close it 4 u. teamwork!

a wagon should give u better sound. and it will be best with the seat up.. longest path lenght for the low notes.

place sub in box facing the tailgate. as close to it as acoustically possible. that way, the phase difference between the incident and reflected waves would be the smallest.. hence, less destructive interference.

faced up as far back is prob 2nd best. forward facing against the seat is worst. that's why it would sound better with the seat down.

explanation... with the sub faced forward into the seat, the sound waves travel from the front of the speaker tru the seat ... and they also travel from the speaker to the back of the car, bounce back and go to the front of the car.

so u get 2 waves.. phase diff.. etc.

if the seat is dropped, then u get more air being pushed from the speaker into the listening area. so this is the reason for better sound with the seat down when the sub is faced into it.

links.. *i searched real hard* .. i read them in the past but nvr bookmarked.

That's why it's almost always better to face the sub to the rear.

With the seat down it might be better but it will definitely be different. Are you going to drive around with the seat down all of the time? If not then I would tune with the seat up and turn the sub around to face the rear.

yeah, am thinking about having the seat down all the time. seems like i am always picking up stuff and never having passengers in the rear.

The best way to find out would be to try it. All cars are pretty unique listening environments. No one can really tell you for sure if it's going to sound better either way. Try it out.
