I love my 28's. I have a Pioneer Elite receiver. I run a 2.1 music system. If I go with LSi 7's or 9's, I will need to purchase a 2 channel amp that will handle 4 ohms. What major improvements will I hear?

In comparing the RTi6's to LSi9's (the two that I have):
- more bass (still not enough though).
- toned down high end. Not ear fatiguing. Some people don't like the mellow tweeter of the LSi's though.
- better imaging depth. Left-to-right is good in the RTi line though. Depends on source and how critical of a listener you are.
- more natural sounding vocals.
That is what I notice to my newbie ear. Others can probably give a better description.

Agreed. The LS series is certainly a more mellow sounding speaker but it also has tremendous dynamic punch without ever sounding fatiguing. Everything I've thrown at these it's handled them with ease and sound effortless.
I'm using an Onkyo 805 THX-Ultra Receiver with an Acurus 200x3 amp.
Exactly what Max has described. Most will tell you that the Yami will handle them. I will tell you that they will sould better with a separate amp.
My brother has them & he ran them with a 50wpc Rotel amp which you could fry an egg on after extended use. He now runs them on a 205wpc Parasound 1500A. They sound even better & the amp stays cool.
You could probably get a 2 channel amp fairly cheap on Audiogon. Welcome to Club Polk.

None, like speaker wire, all speakers sound the same. If I were you, I would just buy what looks pretty and is approved by your wife or significant other.
