Default Need Advice on a New HT Set Up

I'm looking for advice on a new setup I am using a small room (12x13 feet) but it is open concept to the kitchen(with an island dividing the rooms)which is another 12x14 feet. So in total 12 x 27 feet. The ceilings are 10 feet high and the floors are 100 year old hardwood.I plan to use this system primarily for HT but also like to listen to music on occasion.
I have recently bought a Yamaha rx-v861 a/v reciever and RTIA5's for my fronts. I want to add a sub, rear speakers and a center channel. My next purchase will be a sub and I have no idea whether to get a 8,10 or 12 inch or what kind to buy. I would like to keep the cost of the sub under $500.00 CND. I have read good reviews on the following subs in this price range; Paradigm PDR-10, Klipsch RPW-10 and Velodyne DLS-3750R. As for the rear speakers,I was thinking RTIA3's. And for the center the CSiA4.
An suggestons would be reatly appriciated.

I love the RTIA5's by the way

    Thank-You in advance

at 3240cf get the the biggest driver and most powerful AMP ported sub you can afford. Buying internet direct will be tough from a US company since you are in CA.

Outlaw has their big sub on sale but no idea how much it would be going to CA.

I don't know if this actually helps, but if your in Canada this sight might save you a few bucks. Maybe some of the boys from The Great White North will chime in and offer some other suggestions for you. As far as your rear speakers and center go, those are excellent choices and timbre match your existing mains. Good luck and welcome to CP.

RTiA3s would be a really good choice for rears - they are a tad big, but if you have the room they would make a nice compliment for the RTiA5s.

I run RTiA3s as my fronts and they are really great values!

Check out the classifieds here for a sweet deal on some Outlaw subs in your price range!

Otherwise, if you want new, do some research on Elemental Designs (ED) for Internet Direct choices for subs - they have good street 'cred' ;)

    Hi Reno.

For subs under $500 check these out:

    > Elemental Design: 12" x 250w ; 18Hz; $350 free ship

    > Outlaw Audio: 10" x 225w; 25Hz; $319 free ship

    > HSU Research: 8" x 130w; 32Hz; $299 + $25 ship

    > Velodyne VRP: 12" x 130w; 29Hz; $359 free ship @ Audio Advisor

If you play mostly music, I reommend the Velodyne. If you play mostly movies, I'd go for the Elemental. But, all of these are fine for both music and movies.
