ok so i just got my new amp today and i got it all hooked up, or so i thought, and to my dismay there is nooo sound. I have my speakers connected to the amp with banana plugs and then i have the amp connected to my receivers pre outs with rca cables. I am using some cheep rca cables from radio shack http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2289558 since i wont get my other cables in for a couple of days. My equipment is sony 3300es receiver, lsi15's lsic lsifx's. Please help, i was thinking that the problem could be that the rca cables cannot carry the load??

Congratulations I just got mine 2 days ago and it sounds soo much better than my yamaha receiver. I have cheap interconnects also and they make poor contact with the amp....the sound would fade in and out. I bent the rca pins alittle and the contact is much better and the sound doesnt fade out. I just ordered MIT interconnects.

Cembros, I am looking at your amp and it looks very simple.
I think what I would do is disconnect all cables from receiver to amp and the speaker cables from the amp to spearkers. then I will add one at the time. I think what the problem could be is that now that you have more power one of your speakers might be creating a short. hopefully this way you can identify what speaker might be having the problem.
Also I would not rule out that your amp has a defect in one of the chanels.
    I hope this helps.

I have Rotel RMB 1095 myself in all black color. This amp has internal heatsinks that requires a lot of air circulations and ventilations. That's why the amp has a lot of air vent on the chassis on the top cover as well as on the bottom plate.

It's best not to put it on the carpet by itself because air flow is very restricted if you put it on the carpet and the amp will go into protected mode (all lights red and no sound) after it gets warm.

You need to check your amp to see it has the feet underneath it. All amp comes standard with the feet / cones underneath. If you see the feet underneath, you can put the amp on a slab of wood or on a proper amp stand. Do Not put this amp in the enclosed cabinet or shelves or on top of other components or anything on top of it. Anything that restricts a free air-flow is like a major NO NO for this amp normal operation. At least, that's what I found out mine. It'll run happily all day if you make sure a good air flow around it and underneath it unless yours a lemon. :(

I hope you good luck and it's a nice sounding amp.

While this is good general advice...................there is no way that amp could get hot enough to shut down in a few minutes sitting on the carpet. But, get it off the carpet ASAP.

Yeah, H9. Shouldn't be like that but it does. I know mine does but it does that in about 5-10 minutes. But again, how soon it shuts down depends on how loud you really crank the amp up to on a carpet. I know mine is not a lemon but it gets hot VERY VERY VERY FAST. Nothing wrong with it. It's the way it's designed I guess. A lot of air vents underneath to sucks the air up and cool the heatsinks. My cat favorite amp.

I put it on the small wooden cart with wheels underneath and the center of the cart is all wide open. That makes a very good ventilation and the amp runs cool and runs all day long.

My single ended Class A amp has large external heat sinks and it's designed to run HOT. It runs about 200 watts idle and I can't touch the heat sinks for more than about 5 seconds. It takes about 10-15 mintues to start to heat up and about a hour to reach full operating temp.

There is something else wrong with the OP's amp if it goes into protect mode so easily and quickly.

I hope he gets it figured out..........because it sucks to get a new piece of gear and then find out there's a problem. Very frustrating

Yeah! I know it's very frustrating and happened to me with this bloody rotel model. I still keep it because it sounds very nice. But it's thermal protection circuit is designed in such way so it will trip when it gets hot very fast, I think. It's probably most usual problem with everyone's RMB-1095.

The OP's amp might be half lemon and he can find out after running it in wide open space.

Class A is very different from AB since it lost nearly half of the power during thermal dissipation and gets very hot. But you are rewarded for the loss with the blessings of almost 100% identical amplified output signal to the input. I'd say 200wpc is a damn good beefy Class A amp you own and what speakers you are driving with it?

200 watts is what it draws at idle from the wall socket..........output is 30wpc @ 8R.

I have modified SDA 1C's and it runs them with no issues :). I'm liking the heat during the winter..........but summer is going to be interesting. There is a thermal shut off at 170* F

Class A is an excellent space heater to double functions and a very good choice for an amplifier. I am sure you'll be very happy with SDA1c + Class A combo. I don't own SDA speakers but it sounds a very sweet combo.

    Cembros,

Might be time to make a call to Rotel customer service if you haven't already.

agreed.. amps take time to heat up enough to cause it to shut down because of to much heat build up.. something ain't right with your amp.. as someone mentioned earlier.. check each and every speaker wire.

this caused a problem for a friend of mine. he sent me a picture of his amp.. and the first thing that popped out at me was one small speaker wire was touching the case of his amp.. causing it to shut down every time he pushed it.

Interconnects can also cause a problem. I had that a while back. one back interconnect caused my amp to shut down.
