    Default Denon dra-25

the Denon dra-25 is no slouch, I got one brand new in 1987 along with polk 5jrs(blew them up years ago). I still have the denon and use it everyday., I have abused it, made it run 8 speakers one time it ran so hot the solder melted off the transitors(by the way the heat sink apparatus is oil cooled), I just put new solder on and it still runs today like it did when it was brand new! I have had many other amps come and die or get sold off, but this one wont quit. . My dra-25 is now in semi retirement used as a pre-amp so I only make it push about 1watt fed into my tube amp sound quality is pure and simple.

Stan how are you. Just scored a DENON DRA 825RA today at Goodwill for $35.00 but missing the remote and the owners manual. As i read the post you might have the manual for it. Can i also ask if you can email me the manual, but if for any reason you can't its ok, just have to wing it for now. So far the unit is working, tried to use the pre-out to drive my Hafler XL600 with Polk SDA 2B's with Dual TT 1229Q with Dire Strait Sultan of swing and it sounded wonderful. Then i used the Denon Main with Hafler Iris Pre-Amp with same music, sounded good but the Bass is not as tight as my Hafler XL600, and the mid's and high's are just right. All in all i think it is a great buy.

    Thank you,

Sounds like a great buy. I don't have experience with the DRA-825RA but with the 825R and 835R. The 835R does improve in the bass department over the 825R.

I plan to do the same thing using the 835R as a preamp and getting an Adcom or Carver or other for a main.

I'll see what I can do about a manual.

I just stumbled upon this Denon DRA-825RA thread. I was lucky enough to have picked one up during college when I worked as a delivery/setup guy at a high-end audio store in Duluth, MN back in 1989-1990. Between about 1999 and 2008 I "retired" her to service as a dedicated tuner (I know - blasphemy!) in my whole house audio setup. I recently tried to fire her up as a standalone with my polk monitors, but alas - something happened in storage. The display lights are flickering, and no sound comes out at all. I know enough about electronics to get myself in trouble, and I'd love to take a stab at troubleshooting this before I try a "real" professional. Does anyone have a copy of that elusive 1025RA/825RA service manual? I keep coming up empty except for an old auction on ebay canada.

By the way, I still use my Denon 5-disc CD changer daily, and recently found my old "universal" denon remote that is about the size of a kindle fire. Brings back some memories, I tell 'ya!

I have a Denon DRA-825R that I just got from a friend and I also have a Technics rack system with the SU-G91 amp and separate tuner - ST-K50 - the technics system has 5.1. Just bought a new pair of B&W speakers and trying to decide which system to hook up - currently not using surround sound in this room -just music - wondering if you know which would sound better and also if either system could be used to biamp the new speakers

I almost picked up an SU-G91 at a thrift store. It would immediately go to protect mode even with no speakers attached. Apparently this model is prone to overheating and frying the amp IC's. The fans also tend to go bad. I read reports that they sound good when they work. It is not true 5.1 but converts the 2-ch via Dolby ProLogic.

I would tend to believe that the Denon would be the better bet.
