Question So many boxes so little time

    hey whats up
I just got two polk audio 12"gnx subs, i dont have a box yet and i was wondering what would be best for some loud and not to dirty bass. Ported, medium, sealed, large sealed, band pass, isobaric the peak on these subs is is400 would 500 watts be to much power for these beasts. A speedy reply would be appreciated, i need the box by friday

... if you put 500 watts RMS onto the GNX, then you can sit back, light up a cigarette, and have a smoke with your sub.

they're rated 175 RMS, you'd have to ask people who use them daily on what is the "most" you can go past the rms mark, but just guessing i'd say dont go past 225 ?? or so.

the subs are designed for a 1.25 cubic foot airtight sealed box, so by nature you'd expect that to be the best "sound quality" enclosure for them.

However, Polkie Thom has said you can port/vent them and still maintin good sq while getting a really good BUMP out of them.

They've got an Iso-bandpass box design here as well, search the forum pages, you'll find a link to it, but as has been discussed before, the quality of sound, while loud, wont be great.

I say go sealed, cube and a quarter, half a pound of stuff per chamber - 1 lb total, and throw like 200 rms on them and call it a day. :)

    pbd...lol...cigarette huh?
    id go with a vented
those subs arent too powerful and a vented box would give your bass a little boost
youll compromise a little sound quality
but it probably wont be able to tell
id run 200 watts rms going to each of them
500 is more than twice too much and yes unless you like the sound of blown speakers....id strongly advise against it

    word of advice
    peak doesnt matter
    hardly if not ever
rms is all you need to know
    as for 250 rms
i would suggest turning the gain down

screw that -- i'm out of cigarettes... bridge it and put 1,000 x 1 on one sub so at least i can inhale that....
