Size matters

So I have a delemma, and need some suggestions. I am trying to start a 3.1 or 5.1 system and have the following issues:

I really want the LSi. My original plan was:
C: LSiC
F: LSi9 21.91cm
R: LSi7
Sub: PSW10

But, I wanted to turn the speakers sideways and put them under my tv on the entertainment stand. I know that's not the best but one side is blocked and space is tight (probably no floorstanders). The max width (turn speaker sideways appears to be 20cm. There's a bar underneath that blocks the last 2cm.

The LSi9 are 21.91cm. I don't think it will fit. Can anyone attest to the width and is there any way? If not, I am thinking about:

C: CSi A6
F: RTi A3
R: RTi A3
Sub: PSW10

The RTi A3 is only 18.73cm. Comments or help? PS, I know the PSW10 sucks but was cheap. Thanks!

The fronts under your TV? I hope you have a big TV because otherwise you do not have adequate separation between the L-R speakers. Can you put them on stands on the sides of the TV? Also, putting the L-R speakers on their side is not ideal. You will kill the imaging if you use the system for music.

"is there other way"... they either fit or they don't.

BTW, you may want a different sub. The PSW10 is quite weak.

I have RTi A3 fronts and CSi A6 center. The A3's are above the TV as my entertainment unit only has space for speakers on the top shelves -- like yours, my situation is not ideal. The top of the TV is about 66" off the floor (73" Mits RPTV), and the A3's sit on a shelf that's about 72" off the floor. The A6 sits on a CRT TV wall-mount that is directly above the TV. I have tried all speakers angled down slightly and sitting straight on the shelf and the difference in sound is minimal - I left the A3's sitting straight because it's easier for now, and the A6 is angled down ever so slightly. They are about 96" apart, so I get good separation. And they sound fantastic. While I've heard the LSi's are wonderful, I doubt you would be disappointed with this setup.

One of the reasons that my setup works fairly well, at least in my opinon, is that I sit 15 feet from the TV screen. How far do you sit from your TV and what size TV do you have?

Well, it's 10' to the tv. The room is 12' by 15'. I like metric so much better. Anyways, it is brick (yes this sucks too) and I am stuck with that. One option is to mount the front speakers in the wall (drill in brick) to the left and right of the tv. The center will fit nicely mounted directly behind the tv close to eye level. Btw, this is the "other option" I was thinking of; I should have stated that I guess.

So more q's then.

1. Anyone mount LSi9's? If so, how much support is required? Will one bolt do?

2. Is it just easier to go with A3's and put them below the tv closer together?

3. Is there that big of a difference between lines?

This is my first attempt at a decent setup and I'm just trying to make a nice, laid back environment. Nothing crazy. This will be 90% movies and games, 10% music and torture (jk).

With a 65" set, your TV is probably about 5 feet wide. I would say, as my own "rule of thumb," that 6 feet would be a minimum distance between the speakers at a 10-foot distance.

Dolby recommends your speakers be "toed in" 22 to 30 degrees when aimed at the primary listening position, so you can do the math to figure out what would be the ideal distance between the speakers according to them.

From a much more practical standpoint than any rule of thumb or industry standard can provide, listening to the system would be the only way to know if it really does the business or not. Listen to the speakers under your TV, then move them further apart and listen again. If further apart is undeniably, significantly better, then you need to figure out how to mount them so it works for the aesthetics and other requirements of your room.

I could also use LSi7's as front and mount it on the wall. Everything I've read says it's bad to wall mount the 9's. There is a decent BT-77B stand that may work for one or both.

If I can't mount the LSi's then I think they are out.

Is anyone mounting the 7's or 9's as fronts? Thanks!

The 9's are heavy so you need a good mounting system. The RTi A3 is lighter. Yes, there is considerable difference between the two. Both lines are very detailed. Most people find the RTi line brighter and the LSi warmer in sound. A lot of people enjoy the LSi line for music (jazz, vocal, classical, etc.) although it does well in HT too. Some people prefer the RTi line for hard rock music. Ultimately it's a personal decision which line is better.

I have all my speakers on stands so I cannot help you with wall mounting options.
