    Default Audiogon purchases

    Hey,

I've purchased a bunch of things off A'gon and even sold something. Thus far the experience has been very good and saved a bunch of money.

What do you guys do when the seller says 8 and you get it home to find it's closer to a 6. Meaning the front isn't perfect but rather some small scratches both on front and top. The scratches aren't noticeable when in the rack until you get within a couple of feet. This isn't a deal breaker and the amp sounds good and was fairly priced.

The seller has all positive feedback after 5 exchanges- I'm going to give him positive feedback to not make waves since I have even less feedback and would want to avoid a pissing match where he dings my rating.

I figure I'm just going to email him after the fact to remind him of the scale of which I'm sure he is already aware.

Am I copping out or since it's not a deal breaker just let it go?

Who here has been in a pissing match with another A'goner?

Take it to email first but there is a process for open discussion and dispute resolution within Audiogon.

Don't leave feedback. He can't leave you negative feedback since you have to "approve" the feedback.

If there are scratches on the front face plate it is not an 8 and I would contact the seller to let them know that.

Did you pick it up in person?

All right I just emailed him nicely with photos and suggesting what I thought would be fair leaving it open for him to suggest some other alternative.

We'll see. Photos of the amp below. I didn't take photos of the top edge which was touched up with a marker.

Seems more like a 6 or 7 at BEST. No it was shipped, he can't really blame it on shipping since it was touched up with the marker.

I specifically asked in email if there were any dents dings or scratches to which he replied cosmetics were really a 9!

If the above statement is true, then forget about it and enjoy the amp. Sure, you can send the seller a friendly e-mail and suggest that you think the amp is a 6 vs. an 8, but if you're not trying to get a refund, it's not worth the time.

The amp is a 6. The bathroom is easily a 9.

I'd agree about letting it go if it was a fair price and you don't want a refund.

I agree with Early. If you don't think it's a big deal then why bother mentioning it? So long as it plays then it's doing what it's supposed to do.

I agree. If it's not a deal breaker just don't leave feedback and let it go.

It's all good; some email to inform him that his ratings system is off could/should educate him, and possibly help future buyers.

HA, that is of course the before bathroom. Hopefully you checked out the after!!!

So I offered what I thought might be a fair concession about 10%. He came back with about 5%. I responded with something in the middle but he then said well, might ship it back if it's anything more than 5%. My initial 10% wasn't intended to be my initial starting point for a negotiation but oh well.

So I got something, which is good but I wouldn't have bought an amp rated a 6 either. He never mentioned once oh sorry or I didn't know the rating scale or well it's close to a 7 or anything.

Good enough!!! Now onto painting the bedroom!!!

I'm sorry, but letting the seller off the hook isn't doing anyone any favors, especially you.

    Wink

We just disagreed on the concession but I wasn't going to ship it back...at who's expense...a whole other thing to argue about?

For the last few $$ we were haggling over it wasn't worth it.

I'm letting it go ....a big step for me!(even though I'll continue to curse his name under my breath as long as I own the amp);)

I am on my second purchase at Audiogon. the first one was a couple months back for 15+ year old amp that the seller had said was 7/10. When I received it I considerered the condition better than that. I am awaiting shipment for my Br player. SO far the only concern I have is the amount of time between sending the money and the seller noting on the website that he indeed received the money seems to lag a bit on this second buy. I pay with paypal so the money is there within minutes of completing the forms. If the seller does not note that he has received the money it looks like I am being slow to pay.....

I should be able to bypass him and show proof the money was sent on my part that way the sale can move forward........otherwise he can take his sweet*** time and say he hasn't received the money yet.

Hopefully that is not the case here. I have been had on e-bay before and the big dispute was the seller didn't get the money. SO then a week later and 50 e-emails showing payment to e-bay he :A) has already disapeared off the planet. B) decides he should ship it now as favor to me

I am have quick Audiogon question: Is there a way to search by location? Can I find what items are close to me to save on shipping?

I've had this problem before. I took my time and wrote a respectful email to the seller noting the flaws that I saw versus the written A-gon rating system. Since the flaws were not a deal breaker, I just asked for a modest amount of money back due to the variance. Most sellers will come around eventually.
