    Default VM20 Center

Is there any way people here can buy Single Center VM 20?

Center VM20 is listed as pair for $999 on polk site? Why would we need pair of center and why is vm 20 center is expensive than csi a6?

It seems that i cant place rti a9's by the tv as front speakers. My Panasonic 58" PZ850U took most of the wall where it is mounted. It will leave me about 10-11 inches gap from tv to edge of the wall.

VM is 6" wide and RTI a9 is 8-7/8" wide. Now new decision is tough!! Help guys

You can buy the VM20's either as a pair for front/surround channel usage, or as a single for center channel duty.

They designed it so that it will work for either placement.

So I take it you're looking at the VM series speakers now?

Originally plan was buying VM, then RTI a9 when I had plenty space until I got this monster tv. VM will be great with space & sleek and it all depends if VM is designed for HT? I also know it needs sub and amp. How much would single center vm 20 cost? $500ish?

VM's were designed mainly for HT usage. So they should work well.

I'm not sure what a single would cost...but probably somewhere in 500 range.

That'd probably be a good setup. I've never heard the VM's before, but I'm in line for a demo on the VM20's...so I'll get a chance to get my ears on em before to long.:)

You can buy a pair of VM20s from the Polk Direct site on ebay for $600. If you want to buy a single VM20, email Polk Direct and inquire if they would "buy it now" a single VM20 for around half of that. I bought two single VM10s from Polk Direct and they were very easy to deal with over the phone.

That I can't really tell you, as I haven't heard the VM's personally yet.

The VM's don't have as much bass output as the RTi's though. The VM30's go down to about 50 hz, and the RTi A9's can hit below 20hz IIRC. Using a sub with the VM's though I'm sure it wouldn't really be an issue.

My personal opinion is that maybe the mirror like silver finish is not the most desirable. They're not blowing out the Black version. They're probably just blowing through slow moving stock. At this price, I'm not against throwing a coat of spray paint on them. Hmmm. I might try that with the center I got.

That's a great price on the VM's. I'm considering using VM's for a bedroom HT setup sometime down the line, but that's still far off in the future at this point.

That's possible. With the RTi's the trend is that the cherry speakers go for more money than the black versions. Due to desirability I'm assuming.

but everyone keep saying RTi is better them VM is that true? If that is true why VM serious is more expensive than RTi? Any way Since newegg selling so low about the VM serious I think I am going to get a set any way.

VM series has an industrial heavy duty aluminum enclosure. A little more costly than an MDF box from China.

That price from Newegg is the best I've ever seen. I'm in the same boat as mmadde, I just purchased a pair at $199 a piece.

It's because of the extra difficulties involved in building a good sounding speaker in as small of a package as the VM's.

Like MikeC78 said, the aluminum cabinet adds a bit of cost to the construction process too.

I think the current paired VMs being offer may be reflecting an emerging school of thought that a single center is basically a mono transition between the left and right fronts. Also, dialog is seldom exactly to the center unless you are listening to a documentary or something like that. So, why not have separate L/R centers!

I do not know if there is anything to this, but the beasty vintage CS350-LS I acquired this past weekend is IMO basically two center 250s housed in a single box (even has two bass ports). Of course, there is only one set of input lines, so it is unsure how an L/R center aspect is achieved, if at all. It does make me suspect that the L/R center concept has been around for a while.

5.1 is a discreet channel thing. If a movie is encoded with 5.1, then you will get 5.1 discreet channels of output as the director intended-no mono transitioning. You might see that when applying an audio DSP to make a stereo or non 5.1 source output through all 5.1 channels though.

L/C/R is Left, Center, and Right, not Left Center and Right Center. It's essentially a satellite speaker system where the L, C, & R are the same model speaker as opposed to the norm where the left and right are the same and the center is different(design).
You can use 3 VM10's for L, C, & R , or 3 VM20's, or two VM30's as L&R and a VM20 as a center. You can configure the system however you want-You can buy pairs or singles-its just a matter what combo you want.

I had few questions, I been reading the specs for the VM serious but seem like I can't find what way of speakers they are? I assume the VM30 is a 3 way and VM 20 is 2 way and VM 10 is 2 way also. Am I correct?
I am planning to buy 2 VM30, 3 VM20 and 2 VM 10, but I just realized my living is not big at all just about 150sq ft will that over kill?
Last question, I often see people put a piece of wood below the speakers what's that for? If I have a wood (not real wood) floor do I need on of those? Sorry for so many questions I am too new to this world. Appreciate for anyone who can help me out.
