Excellent and certainly something to be proud of, I do not know from personal experience but from friends and is tough for them. A great support group helps them a lot.

There is no prouder moment then anything related to your children...period.

But for me it wasnt the birthing part....sure I was proud as hell being there watching her be born....but any bonehead with a sack can get a woman pregnant and have a baby....its what you do and witness after that moment that the true proudest moments come.

The first time they say daddy ( Or Mommy for the ladies ) has to be way up there....or the first report card they bring home and its as good as can be because before they ever even met their teacher , you had been sitting with them at the kitchen table working with them to give them a headstart on anything they were going to actually be re-learning in school.

Those are overall proudest moments for any parent...on a personal note...and what the thread really was about...I would say I had an unusual one stand out for me.....

The day I took my daughter to the shooting club for her first jr day competition and she beat every other members sons by a huge scoring difference...it wasnt even close :D I had heard some of the boys teasing her beforehand ...she was calm and collected...when all was said and done , hearing her asking them why they werent laughing now was one of my personal proudest moments.

When my son got his black belt in full Olympic style Tae Kwon Do at age 11. He worked his ass off for that and it paid huge dividends.

And to Lorthos.. I can relate to clean and sober. I just past the 20 year mark on January 1st. Way to go. ODAAT.

    I divided family and career:
    Family
    1. Being a father to a child who didn't have one. I married a widow and raised him from the time he was five. The word "step" in our home is only used to describe a physical feature of the house.

    2. My son graduating high school even though he has to carry the cross of having intense versions of two learning disabilities.

    Career
This will sound a bit crazy, but it was the day we buried my Italian grandfather. I composed and read a poem about his life and dedication to his family's future. I look back and see it as a turning point, I rededicated myself to finding a teaching position after six years of no luck. After that my career went on the upswing.

My marriage to my wife of 31 years,
the birth of each of our 5 kids,
    the purchase of our home,
the graduation of our first three kids from major universities,
the scholarship of our youngest son to play football at a D1 school,
the moment my D1 football player came out of knee surgery OK!
starting up and driving our cobra replica that my sons and I built over 4 years,
the acquisition of our first bulldog... life will never be the same,
the start up of our own business and still paying all of our bills.

    That's about it I guess:)

I'm right there with you Mark but mine came when my little guy started calling me dad.

My proudest moment is the fact that for 25 years my older son has been on this earth along with what I mentioned above.

My second was the day Jesse delivered my TriVista 300.:D

Good one. That was a proud day for me too. 18 months next week!!!!

Aside from the children and wife stuff, for me one of the proudest days was when I completed my finished basement, including bar and bathroom, all by myself with some help from my son and my dad. With NO experience at all. That felt good. The addition of the audio room came second.

At the ripe ole' age of 55 I've experienced many proud moments...All of which pertain to my Family.

My most recent moment was when our 14 year old Son came home from school and stated that he had "earned" the privlege to be included in a school sponsored trip to D.C. and Philly this Summer.

He achieved this goal by staying after school and helping tutor kids that are a bit challenged...he is a gifted child that knows how to give.

A week after he returns home,he will be leaving on a Mission trip with his Church Youth Group...All of these kids had to earn this by going out in the community and performing tasks such as; shoveling snow for the elderly,at no charge of course, helping anyone who needed a hand with whatever.

No tubes in any form or fashion were involved in this rare display of raw power.

Had they been, the glass would have been shattered and the shards of glass would have been dispersed like Dandelion seeds in a hurricane.

Even then, the movement of hair was so slight, it was almost undetectable to the human eye. It was one of those rare moments in nature not unlike a sighting of the now extinct passenger pigeon...

I was humbled just to be there.
