    Default Emotiva RPA-2

    Hey guys, need some advice.

I have been thinking of upgrading my 2 channel sound. I currently have a Pioneer Elite VSX 94TXH 7.1 that are powering my LSI system.

The speakers seem to be missing something.

I was thinking of upgrading the 2 channel sound with a Emotiva RPA-2. I have never heard of this company. Does anyone have any experience with them and LSI's.

    Thanks

Emotiva is a great company with great products and their customer service is superb. I think Emotiva would be a great match for you lsi speakers.

    Which lsi's do you have.

    Sunfire does make great stuff.

How much of a difference over the Elite would one expect in 2 channel operation with amp's of the cabiler that we have been talking.

I can really only do about $6-700 max on this.

this amp will also blow your mind for the price and smoke the EMO's The TFM's have a very tubelike quality to them that should warm up the high end of the LSI's

    I am not 100% on the specs, but I think its 380 at 8ohm/ 500 at 4ohm

I had a Yammie sytem with 2- CARVER TFM-15CB- I had them bridged mono to each LSI. Wasn't that impressed. It could have been the room. I have moved since then and don't have the Carver's to try out again.

Oh i might just bid on that so i have something to compare to my XPA-3...:D
Actually, they both look tempting, i wouldn't even know which one to pick....

I'm "thinking" about getting a 2 channel amp. I was thinking about the XPA-2 since it would obviously match my XPA-3. I'm not sure how the sunfire or carver would match though.

    Anyways, good luck Vette!

It's a mistake to place Carver or Sunfire in the same league with Emo, espscially the RPA-2.

Bridging that amp then running with 4 ohm speakers was probably a problem. Bridged amps don't like seeing less than 8 ohms. Also, from speaking to some of the Carver/Sunfire folks the TFM15 was not one of their highly regarded amps (internally).

I think EB has heard all the above amps and is suggesting the RPA is quite an amp. Also, not everyone likes the laid back nature of Carver/Sunfire amps. I do and find that Carver's are a very nice, affordable solution...anyway my double penny.

Does anybody have experience with both the XPA-2 and RPA-2 on LSi-15's? On the Emo site I think they've generally agreed that the RPA-2 is more detailed and laid back and better for music and the XPA-2 has more oomph for HT (I'm oversimplifying). I'm curious as to which might be the better match for the LSi's.

    Same thing I'm wondering Jet.

Let me know if you get the EMO as I have the LSI's as well.

Matching the amp for a particular speaker is the wrong approach. You should match the sound of any component with your musical tastes and listening preferences. In terms of the RPA-2 vs. XPA-2, it depends on what style of music you primarily listen to. For jazz, classical, acoustic, etc., go with the RPA-2. For rock, R&B, etc., go with the XPA-2.

I have tried almost every single amp offering from Emotiva. For my system the RPA-1 seems to be the best match for my 2-channel listening. And yes it can definately rock with a HT system. I also have an XPA-3 that i use for my center and rears when i use it for HT. When i tested the XPA-3 against the RPA-1 for 2-channel, the RPA-1 was definately better. It was just more crisp and detailed. The XPA-3 was more forward and definately had an incredible bass kick, but it lacked the detail that the RPA-1 gave my speakers. Does that mean i dont liek the XPA-3??? Heck no, its an awesome amp and does an incredible job when matched with the RPA-1 for HT duties. .Thats why i still use it

The thing is everyone has different setups with different speakers in different rooms so YMMV when it comes to this. But i definately give the RPA a thumbs up.

no reason to be so harsh... from MY experience this is quite true, as many others have found. receivers inherently do not match the performance of separates, although I will leave room for the RARE exception. Dedicated power from a capable amp will dramatically improve the performance of a speaker.... Just ask F-1!:D

+1 but it doesnt mean that either amp doesnt still do a great job where the other amp excells.

for my dollar hell yes... we are talking signature series into a 4ohm load. this would be 810wpc! and a nice warm tubelike sound to top it off. IMHO emo seems like great stuff but not in the same class as a signature series Sunfire

I'd put my money on the Carver....

.... Carvers would be great to but willing to concede this might end up being a close call and up to the ear of the listener to judge...

high wattage is by no means a justifiable spec to say its going to be "better". If you have heard the RPA and preferred the carver than by all means that is your opinion and i respect that. But when people say stuff like "oh man amp A would just kill amp B" and they have never heard amp B, then its just a ridiculous comment. I'm not trying to be harsh here, but to many people here just try and shove emotiva around like its nothing when they have never tried the stuff.

If put in the same cell together, Carver oughta scrunch up its wrinkly butt cheeks 'cause Emo would screw the hell out of it.
