I have a similar setup but even harder with windows along the side and rear walls, so I had to opt for ceiling mounting my rears, but was able to point them down towards my couch:

The rears do not point directly at the couch and listening spot but over so that it is harder for 'localization' of the rear source.

Ya gotta do what ya gotta do....my setup works acceptably so given the constraints.

    Good luck with yours,

inwall, I just bought all inwalls b/c of my 3 boys...6,2 and 4mths. Heard they sound just as good. Rci85 for front and centers, Rci65 for the sides and rears.

I also have my seats against the rear wall and I'm running fxi a6's and the angle on the fxi speakers work out perfect for me.

Here's a picture of how I'm running my surrounds. The fxi's work out perfectly even with having my seats up against the wall. Bookshelf speakers didn't work as good. Hope this helps.

This is the way I had them when I was running bookshelf speakers. Didn't sound as good with the speakers aiming toward the front vs how the fxi's have them angled at my ears

I have a similar problem as you with my couch up against my back wall. With my old speakers I used to have the rears mounted over my head "behind" me much as in the picture provided by leroy. Another option, which is what I am going to do with my 40's since they are pretty heavy and don't accomodate wall mounting very easily, is to put them on stands next to you, at about ear level.

    It's not that I'm insensitive, I just don't care.. :D

The thing I don't like about running surrounds on speaker stands is if someone is seating on either side of you they will be blocking that speaker.

I also have my couch against the back wall.

For surrounds, I've used towers on 18" stands and then bookshelves on 4' stands. Both sounded great, but I found the towers sounded better as surrounds, possibly because the tweeter and mid were a little lower. Plus it's nice to be surrounded by bass.

The only reason I went with 4' stands and bookshelves is because the stands also serve double duty as bass traps.

Whatever you do, don't put them on the ground.

Do you have any pictures so we can see what you're dealing with?
