Default Facebook users have you read the privacy policy?

somehow, somewhere people have been sending me friends request via Facebook. I don't have a facebook account. How did this happen?

So now I just finished reading the privacy policy on Facebook.

Have you read it if you are a user of Facebook?

this is just some of the Facebook privacy policy.

I find it interesting.... read on if you have the time.

When you use Facebook, you may set up your personal profile, form relationships, send messages, perform searches and queries, form groups, set up events, add applications, and transmit information through various channels. We collect this information so that we can provide you the service and offer personalized features. In most cases, we retain it so that, for instance, you can return to view prior messages you have sent or easily see your friend list. When you update information, we usually keep a backup copy of the prior version for a reasonable period of time to enable reversion to the prior version of that information.

You post User Content (as defined in the Facebook Terms of Use) on the Site at your own risk. Although we allow you to set privacy options that limit access to your pages, please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable. We cannot control the actions of other Users with whom you may choose to share your pages and information. Therefore, we cannot and do not guarantee that User Content you post on the Site will not be viewed by unauthorized persons. We are not responsible for circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures contained on the Site. You understand and acknowledge that, even after removal, copies of User Content may remain viewable in cached and archived pages or if other Users have copied or stored your User Content.

Any improper collection or misuse of information provided on Facebook is a violation of the Facebook Terms of Service and should be reported through the form on our privacy help page.

If you choose to use our invitation service to tell a friend about our site, we will ask you for information needed to send the invitation, such as your friend's email address. We will send your friend an email or instant message in your name inviting him or her to visit the site, and may send up to two reminders to them. Facebook stores this information to send invitations and reminders, to register a friend connection if your invitation is accepted, to allow you to see invitations you have sent, and to track the success of our referral program. Your friend may contact us through the form on our help page to request that we remove this information from our database.

Facebook may also collect information about you from other sources, such as newspapers, blogs, instant messaging services, and other users of the Facebook service through the operation of the service (e.g., photo tags) in order to provide you with more useful information and a more personalized experience.

By using Facebook, you are consenting to have your personal data transferred to and processed in the United States.

They had recently changed it to say something along the lines of:

All content uploaded by the user, becomes the property of Facebook to use for marketing or any other uses.. After a user closes their account, all of their uploaded content remains the property of Facebook to use for marketing or any other uses.

You know all those adds for Lavalife, eHarmony, etc. that show the pic of someone and a brief excerpt of their profile? Well I guess Facebook does (or could at least) do the same thing without your knowledge. Even 15 years after you close your account!

The addition to their User Agreement sparked an uproar from the photography crowd and has since been removed. They are apparently still reviewing possible changes to it though. I am sure you will see a new draft of the agreement within a year.

It reads like a protective disclaimer. If someone gets info off FB then the user tries to sue FB for what the user posts posted them self it protects them from lots of frivolous lawsuits. The only thing I am worried about is when I become rich and famous people will be able to harass my friends and family:(
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
    Ben

If you're so afraid of it just stay the eff off. All this hubub over "OMG they could share my personal information" is ridiculous, what information are you putting up there? If it were so private why are you broadcasting it to everyone you know?

(that's not directed at you DB, or anyone here, just in general everyone's up in arms about certain things and I find it a tad over the top)

this privacy policy could be for nearly any other online type of chat program that you register for.

I guess I just thought I would post it and see if anyone was surprised by what control places like FB have on the content you upload to their website. Seems that it's your content but it's their property to do with what they like within some guidelines.

Legally, i know they have to post their policy for all to see.... to save them from lawsuits and what not. This is no different than a lot of other user sites on the internet.

You never hear of anyone hijacking or breaking into the servers of FB, but I'm sure it probably happens. But at least it wouldn't be as destructive as if someone were to hack into a banking web site or something like that.

My theory is that these sites not only collect general consumer info. and trends but also are detailed chronicles of the lives of some people who may regret later in high office or public eye the pictures and statements they've made. This site is a black mail collector. Use with caution.

Here's an example of my friend who is now Chief of Staff for the Republicans in Ohio getting into trouble because of his facebook page. The statements and photos were all lifted from facebook, not only from his page but more so from his friends as well.

Maybe if everyone was more honest about stuff like that we wouldn't all have to pretend it was such a big deal? Politicians and people running from public office always have to have this pristine record, and anyone with half a brain knows it's bull****, but we all dance this fake ballet. Maybe more information becoming public will get America over its hangups on innocent things like having a party with friends. Everyone's always afraid they'll be applying for a job, and their future boss will see their Facebook page and see them drinking and won't hire them. What a joke, like your boss hasn't gone out and gotten plastered. Buncha hypocrites.

    Rabble rabble.
