Default RDO 198-1 up grade for SDA 1C

Is this the right parts list for this upgrade?
Also I have no self control on volume, so the Polyswitches must remain. Someone said Polk will give you new ones for free, is that correct?

    1- 12uf cap
    1- 4.4uf cap
    1- 20uf cap
    1- 40uf cap
    2- 7.5 ohm resistor
    1- 2.7 ohm resistor

Is this correct for this ugrade or am i missing something? Where are these "polyswitches"? Are they whats called RXE135 on the schematic?

    Thanks

There was never an approved TL upgrade for the 1Cs. If you want to try to make a pair, go ahead, but it may be more of an involved process than you think.

As far as the polyswitches, they are labeled as RXE135 or Safeguard, and Polk will send you new ones if you ask.

The answer to the polyswitches is yes
You should see them on the x-over. Small, roundish things and mustard in color.

You should pull the x-over to be absolutely sure whats in there. The values are printed on all components. When you pull the x-overs it will also give you an idea as to what your working with. Pictures will also help the guys with advice in the future. Also if you have not done it already do a forum search and do some studying

Just use the RDO-194. I don't think many folks here think that the 198 is really that much better than the 194. Do the tweeters, then upgrade the x-over with good quality caps and resistors.

I did my SDA SRS 2.3's with the RDO194's and it did make a big difference. I also have a AI-1 interconnect by Ben that is modeled after the Dreadnaught. Later this summer the crossovers get done.

OK, thanks guys...I thought the RDO -198 was the way to go...but if you say the 194 is right for the 1C...great, and you can just plug them in without the up grade to the X- over..fine. I replaced 1 X-over when Polk still made them, the other is from 19XX..what ever....the poly switch in that is shot and keeps shutting down the tweeters....so that has to be replaced.

I will probably just pull both X overs and replace with the upgrades.
I also need some drivers....I may just buy all new drivers for both speakers.

The reason is I have tried to buy these in the past....Polk said they were out didn't have them and didn't know when or ..."IF" they were going to get them.

That didn't sit well with me...if they stop making the drivers.....NOT GOOD....

I don't know if they changed there tune..since everybody loves these speakers...but i may just keep the extra's on the side..I only need maybe 2 ...but..if they stop making them...well........

I was able to replace either the 6510 or 6511 from Polk. I forget which one. Call them.

I thought the RDO -198 was the way to go
The HF circuit in the 1C's is designed for the SL2000/RD0194-1 tweeters. To enable the HF circuit to utilize the RD0198-1 would require a complete redesign, so the RD0194-1 is your only option.

I don't think many folks here think that the 198 is really that much better than the 194.
I disagree. I found the RD0198-1 to sound much better. However, it won't work in all of the SDA's. That said, the RD0194-1 is far superior to the SL2000.
