    Default My vintage new toy

Snagged this beauty up on ebay for 109.00. Yamaha KX-W900U Dual Well Cassette Recorder. Payed for it on Friday night. The seller shipped it Priority Mail, Saturday morning @ 11:00AM from St. Petersburg, Fla. I got it yesterday at 9:30AM. Unbelievable! That wouldn't happen again in a million years I'd bet.

I've owned a few different cassette decks, but this one here is exceptional.
Very nice sounding unit and is almost mint. I think I did pretty well and just wanted to share. The seller is a really cool fellow also and included 5 brand new blank tapes for me. :)

Fueling my passion for analog. :D

Thanks Joe. I know cassettes aren't as popular these days, but I like to play around with 'em still. I got a pretty big collection of tapes so it will get used. I'm listening to it now as a matter of fact. Some classic 70's rock cassettes from the Time-Life Collection. :D

She makes some really nice sounding recordings to. This deck is one of only a handful ever made that can record on both wells. Excellent machine. She's heavy & built to last. Almost 16Lbs.

Your always welcome to come over and get your ears on it Keleko. :D

I think it was a nice find also. These were Yamaha's Flagship decks at one time. I was stoked when the mail lady (no pun intended) delivered it yesterday. Less than 48 hours from Florida to Hawaii, Priority Mail. That will never happen again in my lifetime. I'm guessing it was mistaken as "Express" Mail possibly.

Nice grab, my brother in Yamaha!

I just snagged a Yamaha CT-800 tuner to match my CA-800 integrated. (It bothered me that the CT-1010 tuner was so much bigger). I am currently looking for a Yamaha turntable to round out my retro system. CD's didn't exist at that time, so I'll probably add a Yamaha cassette deck to finish the system. Like you, I still have lots of tapes from the old days.

Rich, that is some sweet, vintage Yamahammers. I would sell a kidney for a minty CT amp & tuna. And one of my testicles for a pair of NS2000's. :o That unit is just gorgeous bro.

Mikey, I love you, but a DUAL-WELL deck? You want to dub you get two good decks and that's that. I have a few Teac here, a couple Naks, a Tandberg TCD-310 which I need as a spare for the one in my "Half-Ass HT rig", a Henry Kloss Advent 201, a Heathkit which is almost exactly like the Advent (Wollensak had one too), and some kind of Sony ES in my main rig. AND, I just remembered the MINT Pioneer 6 cassette changer I could've let you have for the shipping alone. Don't EVER do that again.

I'm doing better man, getting stronger and with better endurance every day. As soon as Justin makes it so that we can edit posts over in "For Sale" is when you'll see a new vinyl list. I have got a ton of it (literally) that I was collecting so that I could move it all right before Christmas and give Githens an even bigger check than I did, and then my freakin' heart blew up. If Justin doesn't do his thing, I'm bringing all this stuff over to AK (Even if he does, it's going over there. Some ardent fans there too.).

But you gotta promise not to blow up your ticker anymore. You're all heart GG and I love ya man. Hopefully I'll get to meet some of you guys one of these days.

    Rich,

I'm already getting PM's about the Naks. Good thing it's long-time buds or I'd be forced to ask Carl to summon the you-know-what.

Tal about vintage, I need to lose these Dynaco A-50's cause they're cramping my style.

Hey George...any more of that awful silver Pioneer stuff laying around that you don't need?

I went thru a few nice singles back in the day, too. The best I had for recording was a vintage H/K...can't recall the model. Some other Air Jock brought it and a whole H/K seperates rig back from Germany and I got a great deal when he got hitched. Man that rig with the Advents rocked Tyndall for a few years.

Glad to hear you're feeling better.

I love that stuff Rich, I really do, but I don't know where I could use it unless I sold everything now and started from scratch again. I wish I had a couple of extra bedrooms. I got a whole closet full of parts/gear here now that's just being stored. I'm either too attached to some of that stuff or too lazy to get off my okole and sell it. Get a matching amp for that and I would be very tempted. But then I'd have to sleep with my eyes open forever cuz Janey would transform herself into Loreena Bobbitt and be out to neuter me. Really, I was only kidding about the testicle thing. ;)

    Shack,

No Pioneer silver at this time. I do have a pretty nice SX-3700 but the power knob is sheared off. It sheared off in the "ON" position so when I was using it I just plugged it into a power strip. It may have protection relay issues also.

I sold some nice silver this weekend, but not Pioneer. A beautiful Sony STR-V7 receiver and a Kenwood Model 11G receiver. Both to the same guy for $225. $150 for the Sony and $75 for the Kenwood. I posted the Sony for sale on another forum where a long-time "respected" seller had the same one for $350. Bloodthirsty phuque that he is. His wasn't any nicer than mine, in fact, his had a couple scuffed corners and mine didn't.
