    Default New onkyo 607, 507 and 307

    March 12, 2009 | by Steve Crowe
Onkyo has added three home theater receivers (TX-SR607, TX-SR507, TX-SR307) to its lineup, including the “world’s first” with Dolby ProLogic IIz processing.

The TX-SR607, a 7.2-channel receiver with Dolby Pro-Logic IIz, adds a vertical aspect to the sound with left and right channel front height speakers above the main speakers.

Each model supports Blu-ray and other HD A/V source components, 1080p resolution, Deep Color, and x.v.Color.

    They also feature:

Audyssey 2EQ calibration to correct frequency and time domain in each channel’s output
Audyssey Dynamic Volume technology to optimize the dynamic range at any listening level
Audyssey Dynamic EQ to fix problems with reduced sound quality at low listening levels
Onkyo also included four gaming modes: Rock, Sports, Action, or Role Playing to match the listener’s experience to the gaming content.

The TX-SR607 and TX-SR507 have HDMI repeaters and Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Both also offer new proprietary rear-panel universal port to simplify connection to the HD Radio Tuner and iPod Dock that will be available in late spring.

The TX-SR607 also has dual subwoofer line-outputs and upconverts analog sources to HDMI via Faroujda DCDi technology.

The entry-level TX-SR307 has HDMI pass-through switching on three inputs.

The 5.1-channel TX-SR307 and 5.1-channel TX-SR507 have 65- and 80-watts per channel, respectively. The TX-SR607 is rated at 90 watts per channel.

    MSRP:
    TX-SR307 — $299 (March)
    TX-SR507 — $399 (March)
    TX-ST607 — $599 (April)

Nope. They did add a second sub pre-out though... and a front-panel HDMI input and FIVE rear panel HDMI inputs. That's worth the price of admission to me right there -- too bad I only picked up the 606 about a month and a half ago....

HDMI v1.2 (or above) for DSD decoding?

Sherwood has the 7503 with such a feature that's getting rave reviews overseas and it will be available soon in the US.

OK, I guess I'm lost on this one. 7.2 would imply 2 independent bass/LFE channels with different content. Is that new? Simple adding a second sub out (internal splitter) would not make it 7.2.

Does IIz imply a 9.1 amplifier with 2 extra speakers mounted above the front mains??

There are pics of the unit here...

I would absolutely go for the 607 (especially with FIVE HDMI inputs) but it has no pre-outs which is a must for me now.

I like that it has 2 subwoofer outs though (for 7.2 surround). I wish more receivers offered this aside from Onkyo and Yamaha.

The new Onkyo receivers are now listed on Onkyo's website. No owner's manual to download as of this post, however.

The new models have slimmed down by about a pound or two when compared to previous versions. Think getting rid of the analog multi-channel inputs contributed to the weight lose?

I'm thinking it's time to retire my Onkyo 505 :D

Don't some Yamaha receivers offer 2 extra channels called 'presence' channels? Is that the same thing Onkyo is doing or is that something else. Frankly I find that gimmicky....why doesn't Onkyo just put some pre-outs on the 607 and forget about pseudo-surround feature sets. 7.1 HD-sound should be sufficient.

    My 3 cents worth...

Looks like the new Pioneers have slimmed down also to about 19lbs...

The kicker is that none of the new Pioneers have PRE-OUTS!
