I know that room treatments can get expensive, just looking around the web.
Has anybody done a DIY type of room treatments? If so what have you used?

Just to try it, I had two sets of pleated shades and some thick wool type carpet pad. I covered the entire wall behind the TL's. Helped a good bit.
Colored pleated shades make a good wall covering to hide DIY panels. May have some WAF. I have a mancave, so I can do what I want.

I used Roxul brand mineral wool for my panels and corner traps.
Look at the ones in my sig, OC 705 2" local for $15 each, wife made the covers.
Speakers: SDA-1C (most all the goodies)
Preamp: Joule Electra LA-150 MKII SE
Amp: Wright WPA 50-50 EAT KT88s
Analog: Marantz TT-15S1 MBS Glider SL| Wright WPP100C Amperex BB 6er5 and 7316 & WPM-100 SUT
Digital: Mac mini 2.3GHz dual-core i5 8g RAM 1.5 TB HDD Music Server Amarra (memory play) - USB - W4S DAC 2
Cables: Mits S3 IC and Spk cables| PS Audio PCs
Ofc: Wright WLA12 preamp: Anthem Amp 1 PSVANE 6CA7: Pio Elite DV-79AVI: Airport Express: PA LS90 sonicaps and mills
Mineral, insulation without backing, or rigid fiberglass work best.

DIY using the OC 703/05 does the job with sound absorption. Make sure that you cover them with a see-through material. Hold the material up to the light, that should tell you.
Roxul safe and sound with custom birch frames. I'm in Canada.
total cost was over $100 for 3 panels(it's fairly nice wood)
Hey Shinace,
What size are your panels?
Do you have pictures to show us?
$100 for 3 is not bad at all!!!
Im guessing it cost me $150ish to do these 2 big panels plus 2 small panels and 4 corner traps.OC703/705 is not sold here so I used Roxul mineral wool. The frames for the big panels were constructed with 1x4 pine .

Best overall sound improvement I ever made. Of course the room was extremely bad acousticly...

I took these pics with my phone just to show y'all. My good arm is broken so the pics are kinda weak.
Like most people, the panels are 24" x 48" (give or take an inch). A 30$ bag of Roxul can do 8 panels. I then used 1/2"(10 ply) russian birch plywood and ripped the frames. The fabric is strecthed to the inside of the frame, then I layed in the miineral wool, and then glued bracing to the back. I paid 80$ for 2 sheets of 4'x4' plywood. This was just enough for the three frames.
Obviously, the cost savings is in the frames.
My floors are hardwood, the walls are plaster and so is the ceiling. The change with the three panels was almost too much for me. Luckily I didn't pull the plug, left them there, and can now enjoy my silky smooth highs.
Canadians: I strongly recommend Roxul as the NRC ratings are amazing. It's better than OC for vocals but not as good below 500Hz. If you're making seperate bass traps, Roxul safe+sound likely outperforms Owens.

I built panels like those pictured above. I used sound board from Home Depot, 1/2" 4x8 sheets cut to size and covered with black felt from the local fabric store, they worked fantastic and were dirt cheap.

ShinAce,
Very nice job!
I wish I could find a source for Roxul local to me...:(
