Default Have a house built or added on an addition from 2002-2007?? If you did read this.

Was listening to the news this morning and this story caught my ear. Did you have a home or addition built from 2002-2007, is so this info. may pertain to you? Basically, as many as 60,000 homes may be affected by faulty drywall. From 2002-2007 the Knauf brand of drywall has been causing all kinds of problems in peoples homes. Everything from a strange smell, health releated issues, wiring turning black and black spots starting to appear on anything metal based. Florida is the hardest hit due to their weather. The weather sped up the process in Florida and other states will follow. Here is the story.
    http://www.miamiherald.com/business/...ry/957923.html

The news story I listened to stated that the Knauf brand is stamped on the side of each piece of drywall. To see if you may be affected they suggested you look at your lightswitch or wall socket wiring. If it is starting to turn black you are in for one heck of a ride. I hope that no one at CP is affected.

I put an addition and finished garage on the house in 2006. I used Firebloc and Sheetrock brands, all made in the USA or Canada.

If your drywall wasn't made in China, you have no worries. It amazes me that they would actually import drywall from China, it's so bulky and heavy, you would think shipping would be prohibitive.

Just don't eat the peanut products!

There's so much crap coming out of China lately. How about fake
bolts? They make low quality steel bolts with high strength markings.
There was a radio tower collapse a couple of years ago that killed
serveral people caused by that. Give it a few years and bridges will
    start failing, too.

You mean that WE only care about the almighty dollar. Walmart would not be buying from China if people were not shopping there. The problem is in the mirror most of the time. Corporations only behave as their customers and shareholders incent them to.

I can't disagree with that, but in an effort to manufacture things as cheaply as possible quality controls and important safequards seem to have been laxed.Witness the numerous recalls of potentially dangerous Chinese made products in recent years that should have been caught if proper QC was in place.ie.the lead based paint that was used in Mattel toys.

The current model being used by this country is that it is up to the domestic company (product distributor, mfgr who is outsourcing to China, etc) to enforce the product's standards. There is some token U.S.A. enforcement, but the volume of goods verses inspectors make them that - token. At the end of the day, these outsourcing companies pay the price with lawsuits, etc.

No doubt, State Attorney General Office's will be going after the domestic companies who have any hand with the China drywall fiasco.
