Default NEW SS Preamp with Phono section?

Trying to find a preamp with a good Phono section...Under 1K!!!!!

So far I find, the new NAD C 165....looks good, called one place that had it..the guy said the Phono section was ..so-so...but in the same breath recomended the NAD PP-2????
Why would they use a cheap phone section on there high dollor preamp..when the PP-2 can be had for $125??????

I also looked at the Parasound P3...just MM stuff..which was not a hit with anybody, and the Adcom GFP-715...which i thought had the best phono section they made(from the older models)...no mag reviews on this but..just no great statements from anybody.

Anybody have a better choice ..in the under 1k list?????

What kind of cables are you going to hook it up with?
    Ben
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
    Ben

I would look at Musical Fidelity products. I think the MF 308 would be the best $1K preamp you can find.

If you don't have a great amp already or would consider an integrated, I would look at the MF A308 integrated and or any of their other products.

Great stuff, in my opinion, and just about all the integrateds and preamps come with MM and MC phono.

Go with a high quality cable between the cartridge and the preamp, it makes a huge difference.

There a Odyssey Audio Tempest Extreme at Audiogon for $450.
That should put a smile on your face!

How about a Bryston with a warranty until 2015?

Yeah I thought the NEW Adcom was supposed to have the stuff from the 565... But I guess not...I don't see anybody say anything good about it.
But for the price..I guess they just went lowball on it?????????

The Rotel stuff..looks nice, but I can't find any good reviews on the PHONO or TT section..mostly "Rotel" people...and they don't even use the phono section. It looks nice ..dam for the price..but to be honest..I'd go with the Adcom..at that price...they never make a BAD preamp....as Sterophile puts it...they never make a bad, nor great preamp, it never thrills them...but never trash either.

I've had Parasound ,Nad, and Rotel. For $500-1000 you can go nuts on
Audiogon. Or even in the Polk FM. And do a lot better than those.
None of those I mentioned were more that $200 used. In your price range,
some truly great preamps are out there with some careful shopping. Or at
the least, pretty good. Embrace used, demo, and tradeins. There's a lot of
shops that take in gently used trades.
