Soundbar 50 question

I am a newbie at this and I think I have already outsmarted myself. I have a Polk Soundbar 50 I am planning to use in my new surroundsound setup. I also have a pair of speakers built in the ceiling behind me. My receiver is an Onkyo TX-SR606 and I have a subwoofer. My question is - is it better to set the soundbar up and connect the rear speakers for a 7.1 setup, or should I use the Soundbar as front and center speakers and use the ceiling speakers as surround sound for a 5.1 setup? If 5.1, then how do I wire the Soundbar for that? Also, should I upgrade the speaker wires for the Soundbar? Thanks for any help.

I recommend that you try it all 3 ways and see what you like the best. It won't hurt anything to do this.

Wiring configuration come in many shapes and sizes, I would recommend starting with just the surroundbar 50 wired as 5.1 with the subwoofer. Then add on the 2 in ceiling speakers, turning the system into a 7.1. And you really wont see any improvement by upgrading the wire to the SB.
