    Default Polk SDA 1A's

    Hey guy's,

Looking for some advise, I already have a set of SDA 1's that I picked up for $400 that are in excellent shape and sound great.

There is a guy in town selling a set of SDA 1A's for $350 but one of the tweeters on each of the speakers is not working. We tested the tweeter and it appears to be blown.

Anyway, my question to you is, should I pick these up for the price even though the tweeters are blown?

Also, what's the difference between the 1A's and the 1's?

Thanks again for your help guys..... :D

I think most people prefer SDA-1Cs over the other 1s. But if you like the 1As then fine. At $350 I would pass if the tweeter is blown. 1Cs in great shape sell for that our even less if you are lucky.

I agree. $350 plus probably $100 for tweeters (minimum) puts you into the 1C range.

I paid $265 for some 1As, a lot of people agree that 2 tweeters per cabinet is not a great sound anyway, and opt to disable the dimensional tweeters. With that in mind you might be able to talk them down in view of the "problem" with them. Two of the RDO194 replacement tweeters will be less than $100 shipped.;)

pass on those 1A's. $350 is to high, esp with blown tweeters

unless he comes way down on price.. just walk away.

I'll talk to him and see what he says just for the fun of it. At least I don't have to drive too far to go and look at them. I think he's the original owner and I think he's firm on the price.

We'll see what he want's to do.

    Great advise!

See if he'll bite for 200-225. I've got two sets of 1A's and like them, of course I'm a warped mo-fo. You can do the X-over mods and see if you like 'em. If you don't you can sell them to some other dumd-ass like me. Trust your ears.

He hasn't responded to my offer. I'm guessing that he doesn't want to sell them for lower than that. If anyone is in the lower US and have a pair of these, PM me.

Oh well, I'll just have to look for another pair elsewhere.

    Thx.

What area do you mean by "lower US".

Very little difference between SDA 1's and 1A's. Pass
"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass
