Outside speakers for a baseball field

So I need your help here. First off my apologies if this have been covered already, I did a couple of searches on here and found nothing. But I have been put in charge of build a P.A. system for a high school baseball team (I am the only coach into audio, thus makes me an expert on the coaching staff). And I am a little loss for what speakers to get, obviously they have to cover a good amount of ground, be weatherproof, and hang from the press box. Any ideas?

Did they give you a budget? How much?

I told the head varsity coach that it would be around five hundred. I have a little leeway (sp?) but he understands the better the speaker the longer it will last.

I think the Bose 251 fits your budget. But if you want more sound output then either the 402 or 802 will do.

My favorite is the 151. They are amazingly loud for their sizes.

Serious. Get some 70V horns and a good PA amp with mic input.
Lots of choices, look for the PA speakers with good auto-formers that match said PA amp you buy.

Try to find some vintage EV or JBL horns and drivers with a decent PA amp. The 70V suggestion above may be the best one. You may come in under 500.
If you need to do music, a line array with more locations would be an upgrade in fidelity, but will most likely go over budget. EV made some Line Radiators that worked fairly well, and are weatherproof. . not great for music but doable. Some are also 70V, impedance switchable/matchable. Here is an example: Link

So I guess this would apply to my need for speakers for an outdoor Halloween setup as well?
I'm looking for something that is loud and clear, esp for Thunder and creaks and screams as well as some haunting music.

Running the Atrium 60s with the Khartago just wasn't enough (perfect for outdoor entertaining music, but not for the Halloween purpose). It seems that if I want really loud outdoor sound I have to go with the PA type setup, is that about right?

Please do not use ANY speakers made for home audio (or backyard) use for this application. They won't play nearly loud enough and will likely blow up. You're better off with some real PA gear- look at www.anchoraudio.com, www.electrovoice.com, www.jblpro.com, www.mackie.com
