Default HD DVD to Blu Ray Exchange

Just an FYI for those who bought into HD DVD and would like to exchange those titles for Blu-ray titles. Seems to be a goo deal.

    Directly from the website

"Warners Bros., which effectively ended the format war when it announced sole support for Blu-ray, is letting customers swap their HD DVD titles for the Blu-ray version in its new Red2Blu program.

The studio is offering the “upgrade” program for up to 25 HD DVD titles at $4.95 a piece via Red2Blu.com.

Yeah, seems to a pretty decent way to start up your Blu-Ray collection if you already have HD DVDs and are ready to make the switch.

BTW - it's $4.95 for each movie you upgrade, then $6.95 for the whole order for shipping and handling.

It's a good deal I suppose, but I'm still buying HD DVDs! As long as my player works, and as long as I can find another one after mine breaks, I'll keep using the HD DVD format.

    I like it!

Just to clarify it is $4.95(exchange) + $6.95(shipping)= $11.90 total in the USA.

I dont see the good deal when people already paid $30 for the hd-dvd and now have to pay $12 more to exchange it for a blu-ray. Why exchange for a bluray anyway when it works just the same on hd-dvd and they already have the equipment for it?

For people like me who never bought into HD DVD or BR and who is just getting into BR. I can buy HD DVDs on the cheap and trade them in this way. It would be a hassle and I'm not saying I'm going to do it but it would save me money.

I will take advantage of this once I finally make the jump to Blu-Ray. I don't want to have multiple players for a number of reasons... so once I go Blu-Ray, I'll be dumping all things HD DVD.

It's not a great deal, but it's a whole lot better than selling your HD DVDs on the open market for $5 a pop, then shelling out $25+ per Blu-Ray movie.

The deal is you send in the paper cover art inserts with UPC codes on them. You get to keep the HD-DVD discs and the cases. Shipping is one charge per order rather than one charge per disc. Get up to 25 and the shipping charge is the same as if you traded in one. They cover shipping both ways for the single charge of $6.95.

BTW, there are good sources on the internet for HD-DVD custom made cover inserts that are easily downloaded for free, many of which look better than the originals.

This is a cool idea. I would love a good reason to get rid of my HD DVD player. I don't buy them anymore.

Since I paid very little for most of my HD-DVDs, it would be a pretty good deal, but many of my favorite HD-DVDs are Universal/Paramount. I'll have to look through my collection and see if its worth doing...

Its not really a priority for me though since my dual format LG is still going strong.
