    Default MA500 monoblock

Picked up a Marantz MA500 monoblock this weekend on e-pay for $100.
I once read these had problems with original binding posts. Anybody familiar with this? Thanks.

i have three of them right now.. never had a problem with a binding post. but you do run into them in all kinds of used condition.. from nearly new to totally hacked to pieces.

Good to know... Is there any difference between the MA500 and the MA6100? I'm about to pick up two of 'em.

the specs are the same for the Marantz MA6100.. but it appears to be a different color in some instances. .. I think they called it champagne silver or something like that. I have never owned the MA6100.

if it's black and the specs are the same.. they it may have been a release in say Canada. I have two similar Pioneer amps.. both are identical, but one was released in Canada. and the model number is different.. even though both amps are the same.

A friend of mine was running 3 across the front driving 4 ohm GR Research AV2s. They have similar sensitivity to a LSi 9, but I'm not sure if they have the severe impedence dips. Anyway, these monos handled the load easily. I believe they are rated at 180w @ 4 ohms. Very nice open sound, but in comparison to more powerful 2 channel amps, they lack punch. They'll certainly do the job, especially for bookshelves, but if you're talking 15s, then you might want something with more current and higher damping factor.

It would be for an LSiC, sorry I should have mentioned that.

as Ron Temple mentioned.. they lack punch and clairity I would say.. they power your speakers just fine.... but I think there are better ones out there. If you're budget minded like I am.. then they will be fine.. if you're looking to put out the best sound money can buy.. then you might want to consider a better more high current amp. $100 is a good price though. I think I paid $125 each for mine + shipping.

Well the amp will be used for my center channel which is for tv/dvd use only, I stick to 2 channel for music. Would this combo do a pretty good job for tv/dvd use?
