I recently picked up a pair of AQ Bedrocks from a fellow Polkie.
I already own a pair of AQ CV-6's. So, how does it compare?
To start off with, I'm using a NOS dac with an Audio Experience
tube preamp and ARC vt-60 tube amp. I/C's are Kimber Hero's.
The current main speakers are ProAc studio 125's. They sounded
a bit laid back, with a bit of reccessed mids. Overall, though, a
good set of speakers. The Bedrocks were a pretty good deal, so
I took the plunge. They were set up with spades. Too damn big!
I had to cut off the amp end, and put on a smaller set of silver AQ
spades from a local dealer's stock. I was surprized he also had the
heavy duty red and black heat shrink ends from AQ, too.
Down to business. The cable has a bit more copper going on than the
older set ov CV-6's. And a different design.
The effect was it made everything sound more forward, and brought
out more mid-range. Maybe a bit too much of both. I'm going to let
it cook a while more. Pulling the speakers out from the wall a couple
more inches seems to bring it more back to where it needs to be.
The Bedrocks are a good bang for the buck set of cables. The prices
they sell for here at CP makes they a good choice for a lot of systems.
If your system was already a bit forward, you may want to try something
else. But with my setup, they seem to work very well. In about a month
I'll have to decide to stand pat or move to a set of Kimber 8tc.
Either way, the Bedrocks were well worth trying.
