Nirvana

Anyone heard the new Nirvana CD? Is it any good? I am familiar with the songs, but I am just wondering how the new CD is as far as quality. Is there any noticeable difference from the old recordings compared to the new digitally remastered ones? Thanks!

As Shizelbs said, some of the tracks supposed to have been re-mastered. Not to mention the addition of a song that has existed for the past ten or so years, but desputes between individuals kept it from surfacing.

I have nothing to really add to this. I was told that there is very little difference in quality. Then again, I was told by someone who probably could care less about it. Had the CD in-hand at Bestbuy, contemplated it over and over again until I ditched it in the check-out line.

Little difference indeed. I've compared the new Cd to older ones and you can tell that the new one has been remastered, but the originals were done very well also. Wether the old or new is better i can't say, but the older tracks from Bleach are more noticably better.

Overall it's a good "best of" CD, and the new song is really good. Damn I wish he was still around. :(

I still remember the day the news broke. I was in art class, and as soon as we heard it on the radio the whole class went silent. Kurt and Nirvana were a HUGE part of my generation. So much more could have been.

It's also sad what happened to Lane Staley of Alice In Chains. It pisses me off every time I see some trubute to some rap star or whatever, and Lane has just been forgotten. Hardly even a blurb on the MTV news about it.

Whats the lesson? Drugs are bad, mmmmmmmmkay?

Phuz, no **** about Layne. Have you heard Mad Season? It was a side project with Layne Staley, Mike McCready and a few others. Amazing.

Well, growing up in Seattle, and being in Seattle when his death was announced was pretty messed up. The whole city shut down, it felt like anyways. Imagine 200,000 or so people in a relatively small area getting depressed all at once. It was a really weird time.
Oh, and Phuz, don't watch MTV, its garbage. That channel is the devil. Everyone on there is fake, and they don't even know what music is anymore. Rap can be music, but the crap they play on MTV barely qualifies. All their other shows are a complete insult to human intellegence, then I am insulted to be human when everyone mindlessly tunes in and watches for hours on end. Ahhh, I hate MTV.

Speaking of Alice in Chains, I was just listening to them last night.

My personal favorite is "Rooster" followed very closely by "Heaven Beside You".

Yes I've heard Mad Season. Good stuff. The time that mad Season came out was about the time I started loosing interest in AIC (but liked Mad Season). The later AIC stuff didn't rub off on me very well. Dirt and Jar Of Flies are still my fav. albums.

There is a box set that Best Buy carries that includes some b-sides and unreleased tracks that are EXCELLENT. A must have for any AIC fan.

I know MTV is the devil, but it occasionaly has some stuff that I like. It's not like there is a whole lot of other good TV out there to compete. :) I flip through and catch certain things once in a while. At times it's better than American Idol at least.....

Oh yeah, and the Alice In Chains "Unplugged" DVD is excellent. I think it was their last performance, and Layne was in bad shape but it's still a really really good performance and the 5.1 soundtrack is incredible.

I think is amazing how "You know you're right" fits right into todays mainstream music. Truly a tribute to what a great band Nirvana was.

I am assuming that what JSK2003 means is that although "You Know You're Right" is a number of years old, it still seamlessly fits into the era into which it has been injected. It made me cringe at first also, but I think thats what JSK was getting at. What do I know though?

Well, my sugar-momma girlfriend of mine just got the CD for me. It does sound great. However, I can't say if its because of the digital remastering, or my new speakers, or my new receiver, or new speaker placement. All of these are new factors I am sure are contributing, so I am sorry that I can't say the new recording is better than the old. Nonetheless, it is a great CD. The quality is great. Since I was 12, I have listened to hours and hours of Nirvana. I pretty much have all the elements of their songs memorized. So, just now, after two hours of listening to the new CD I was able to determine new characteristics to the guitar. No longer do the instruments seem to be playing different notes in sequence, but rather, each note and pluck of the strings seems to give off its own and unique quality. Anyways, if you like Nirvana or whatever, I think this CD is great and I will be listening to it non-stop for quite a while.
