    Default Speaker suggestions?

Iím a bit of a new guy here, and Iím trying to put together something better than I have. I am acquiring a fantastic custom sub-woofer and amp (http://web.mac.com/bossobass.com/iWeb/Site/Welcome.html) and need a new system to be able to use it for audio and theater (Yeah, still have a ďstereoĒ).

Iím going to start by upgrading the receiver and adding speakers. The receiver will probably be a Denon AVR-2309CI or something similar. I have a set of Polk Monitor 50ís and am looking for suggestions as to what front and center speakers would be a good match with them. I like these Polks but I donít have any heartburn with using other brands. I just suspect staying with the same manufacturer will result in a more balanced system.

In the near term, this system will be in my living room (approx 16x18 ft with 8 ft ceiling). A larger area will become available when the kids move out in a couple of years.

I appreciate any and all suggestions
    Thanx

    Welcome to the Club!
Very nice Subwoofer, I think some Polk RTiA5s and a CSiA6 center will work for you.

You're leaving this rather wide open. How much do you want to spend? How much is for home theater and how much for music? If you like you Monitor 50's then you could always stick with the Monitor line and get 60's or 70's for your fronts and a CS2 for the center. There are a ton of options out there, so I'll just throw my two cents in and you can enlighten us a little more as to what you're looking for.

Yes, I know that description is rather wide open, I was looking to see where the initial response to my question would lead.

Cost is, of course, always a driving factor, but not always a limiting factor. For the receiver and speakers I would like to spend less than $1000. However, if in searching all the vendors I find a great deal (close out, scratch & Dent, etc) on a better version of the item I'm buying that bumps the cost up a $100, I'd probably go for it (and hide the receipt from the wife). If it will add additional insight, the sub-woofer I'm getting I would never have normally considered, but, the guy making them has been a friend since high school and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. (See http://web.mac.com/bossobass.com/iWeb/Site/Welcome.html ).

As far as what kind of system I'm building, audio or theater, I'm staying out of that argument. But, I will say it will be used for both.

As far as staying with one line of speakers or going to another, well, that is again the crux of my question. It's impossible to audition every possible combination of speakers available so I'm looking for opinions as to what speakers have performed well together and what hasn't. Is there a shortcoming with my speakers that would be corrected by going to a different model Polk (or other brand), something that would complement them? Is there something I should absolutely avoid? What are the advantages with going with Monitor 60's (or equivalent) up front?

My opinion is that a speaker system should be able to accurately reproduce any sound within the range of human senses. I can't afford that system and certainly don't have a perfect room to install it in but I'm looking to get as close as possible on a middle class income.
