Began making new tweeter pods

Hello everyone, its been quite a while since I posted on here.

As you may or may not remember from last summer, I attempted to fabricate my own tweeter pods and they came out terrible!

So here I am going for round two... here are a few pics... I've only been working on one side in case I learn something new along the way... any feedback? I didn't notice this until I looked at the pics, but it seems my sanding isn't very even.















I finally found some good primer. I will try a few layers of paint this weekend.

Not bad, but I would suggest seeing if you can find some vinyl or other kind of material over paint, unless it goes with the theme of your car. Its much easier to hide mistakes and IMO, looks better.

Also, anything molded to plastic has a tendency to crack over time, youll never see that under vinyl.

Looks good. I'm currently making some hideously large a-pillar housings for my 3" midrange and tweeter. We'll see how that goes. Progress is slow right now because I'm in the middle of a few projects. My main concern right now is my motorcycle speaker pod...even though I'm selling the motorcycle it goes on in a couple weeks...lol. Its getting wetsanded tomorrow (if i have time at work) and if im lucky and dont go through the base coat again, maybe shooting it with clear tomorrow as well.

If you're stuck on painting it, I would try and get some gray primer, it shows flaws much better than white primer does. You dont want to be sanding flaws out of regular paint. Its a huge PITA.

Actually painting it is the last thing I wanted to do. I want some suede or vinyl that'd match nicely with my tan interior but I can't seem to find any locally. I figured that if I painted it and later found the material I was looking for that I could simply put it over the paint. Or would I have to sand the paint off?

I've seen some of your work and it looks extremely good imo so I appreciate the feedback.

Nope, wouldnt have to sand the paint off.

Cool, thanks. I'm gonna try to make the pods a bit smaller then I'll try to find some nice vinyl to match the rest of the car.

I also found the material I'm gonna use. Its like a cross between vinyl and leather.

After I covered them they looked ok. not great, but i was pleased with them.



Then after I installed them I got some air bubbles. Must have not used enough adhesive. I'll be taking them off sometime during the week to fix it.

I'm not understanding what exactly you covered?

So you wrapped it in vinyl, then spray painted it?

i spray painted it first, then i wrapped it. only because i didn't want to put the vinyl around the part that sticks out.

But did you stop half way up the a-pillar?

As of right now, yes. But I am thinking about covering the whole a-pillar.

I would def. cover the whole thing! What kind of adhesive did you use?
