Default Looking for a used 2 channel amp for SDA/SRS2's

Posted this accidently in a different section so I hope this is where it needs to be. Looks like the Adcom 555mkII has some good reviews ,but I'm open to other brands like Hafler, Parasound,Outlaw, Rotel,B&K, Aragon, Emotiva and anything that would be comparable. I started out trying to keep the budget under $ 500.00, I might have to bump it up a couple of hundred to get something better. Thanks in advance.

You'll get a great amp for 500.00 in todays market!;) good luck!
Most people just listen to music and watch movies . I am glad to be a part of a select group that tries to take our auditory and visual senses to a higher level: we EXPERIENCE them.... GOT SDA?...GOT SUNFIRE? ...GOT Maggies?

Hi Joseph, I will see what I can find on the Rotel you have. Are you upgrading?

Those SRSII's LOVE A LOT OF CURRENT and eat WPC's for breakfast so do the right thing and get the best amp you can afford.

I would suggest a Carver TFM 25 or TFM 35. There is a local dealer in Pittsburgh I have dealt with in the past that is very good. He carries a lot of good equipment.

Checking out info on a couple of amps folks here have suggested. So far have Adcom 555mkII,rotel 990BX, Aragon 8008 on the list. With the power hungry SDASRS2B's, I have_ to have a common ground amp if I'm using the interconnect cable, right? thuffman03, is your Carver TFM 55 common ground?

I have a Rotel RB 990BX and it is a great amp and I also have a Carver M1.5t that is a great amp also and would recommend either for the sda's, most Carver amps are common ground.

Zarrdoss, you're the second person to recommend the Rotel RB990BX to me. I think I'm going to pass on the Carvers,I keep reading stuff that they can have some issues and that alot of repair shops don't want to try and fix them. Also noticed a couple of complaints on the older Adcoms having issues of leaking capacitors and loose grounds. I noticed last night that my SDA/SRS2B's have the blade/pin interconnect design if that is significant to picking the right amp.

Be sure that all the amps you are considering are COMMON GROUND. I noticed you mention the Aragon 8008.....very nice amp but I don't think that is a common ground design.

Some non-common ground amps can have the negative speaker terminals tied together to create a common ground point. But that is NOT the case for all designs.

Be sure to do your homework as using a non-common ground amp with SDA's will ruin either amp or the speakers or both.

Thanks heiney9, I'm not using the interconnect cable yet,for now just using my Yammy RXV663 AVR. It would be great if there was a list of SAFE amps to use with the SDASRS line of Polks. I'd even be happy for a list of the SAFE non common ground amps that can have the negative speaker terminals connected that will be ok for these Polks.

Anybody here using the Emotiva 2 or 3 channel amps for their SDA's? The reviews sound decent and the price isn't too bad.

You should not completely rule out Carver. Yes a lot of Carver amps are getting up in age and will need some work. Though there are a lot of 20 year old amps that will need work. Most only need new caps. They have about a 20 year life span. But the up side is that Bob Carver and Rita Helm are fixing them for a flat fee of $175 plus shipping.

XPA-2 product page says XPA-2 puts out 1,000 watts RMS bridged.

Elsewhere I've seen the claim that if an amp can be bridged, it's common ground.

    FWIW.

Yes but only when it's in the non bridged config.
