    Default Eff Paypal

I hate ebay and Paypal more and more each day.

Long story short. My buddy sold something on ebay and they paid him with Paypal. They took out the 3% fee for using Paypal - standard ****ty procedure. He needs the money asap so I have him transfer the money to my Paypal account (should be NO charge to do this; simple transfer between accounts) and I give him cash. Yes, I'm a helluva nice guy :D

This morning I check my Paypal account and the mofos took out the 3% AGAIN for the transfer! I thought if money was already in your Paypal account then transferring it from one account to the next was free. I guess this isn't the case.

With that, I had to refund his money, log into his Paypal account (he moved down here a week ago and still doesn't have internet) and send him a check from Paypal, which will take 1-2 weeks. Then once he gets the check he can cash it and pay me back.

Once again, go eff yourself, Paypal (ebay)!

I also thought it was like that, however it's not.. they charge for transfers, standard 2.9% + .35 cents.. Its the cost of doing business fast and online.. I hate it, too... But love that money to spend asap.. It has something to do with his account though, Not pay-pal.. either his money wasn't cleared, was paid by credit or something.. you can always call them.. i have several times and get good answers

    Good luck

I don't understand why you didn't give your buddy the cash. If he's your friend and he needs the money ASAP, why should you care about a lousy 3% that PayPal charges? Just eat it.

Yeah, don't understand waiting for a check. I have B of A checking and it only takes one business day to transfer funds from PayPal to my checking.

Even better, is to get the PayPal debit card. Its free to get it (for premier accts) and it lets you take draw directly from the PayPal account at an ATM ($1 fee) or pay merchants directly from your balance (no fees).

You can pm me for my paypal addy, oh yea, would you pay the 3% it only .18, well plus the .35. I dont think Maz cared about the six bucks for his friend, just paying it again to the transaction suckheads.

Whew, a card that lets me pay with my own money, that you hold and you dont charge me a fee, what a deal.

    Have a nice day.

It was an $1100 dollar transaction! He sold his tickets to the OSU games for this year and was going to go pick up a motorcycle he had a guy holding for him. The guys said he'd give him 48 hours to pick it up or the next guy in line gets it. The fee was $33, so I sure as hell wasn't going to let Paypal bend us over on that one. A $5 fee, maybe, but not $33. It was a crappy situation with him moving here last week, not having a bank account set up etc. He's been my best friend for years and years and I know he's good for the money, otherwise I wouldn't have helped him out.

I'm half tempted to require a check/money order on all my transactions on ebay, but I'm sure that would eliminate 50% or more of the bidders. It would probably hurt me in the long run.

the point of "it's not much money" was, because it was for his friend.. and that's what i meant anyways..

I wouldn't expect him to flip the 6 bucks however.. But if his friend needed the money asap, i'm sure he would agree to pay it instead of the refund and waiting 2 weeks for a hard check..

Pay-pay is great!! and everyone knows the fee's up front.. It's no secret.
It's like leaving a negative for high shipping cost when its stated in the auction, doesnt make much sense..

They never had a debit card to start with, it was a way to get payment via the internet and was a basic service.. It evolved and blew up and so they offered a debit card which was a great thing.. Hence the excitment of being able to use one for pay-pal..

Ive used it for almost 7 years now, its a desireable service for some.. people should try and avoid things they don't like

edit: the better explanation sure helps out alot more, now it makes more sense, however losing pay-pal on e-bay will hurt your sales, I tried this one time for 6 months or longer and people don't bid when you don't take it.. Not a good move

When I sold the 20 pairs of LSi7's, I specifically only took money orders and checks. People requested to pay via paypal after they won the auction, and I told them I wasn't accepting it because of the fees, to which some opted to pay it themselves. You're completely entitled to limit your fees, and if people want yor items enough, they'll comply with your terms.

You're not allowed to put in the auction "Paypal accepted if you pay fees", but i you don't list Paypal and people counter with paying the fees, so be it........

Well if you opt to not take one form of payment over another, you're the limiting factor in the mix (for whatever your reasons). If you want a quick sale, accept everything and be done. If you want a more profitable transaction, limit what you'll accept and deal with the 10 day waiting periods (checks), or just get a Money Order and there's no waiting period involved. Either way, the seller has complete control to run how the auction goes by way of what decisions they make for final payment. It's not a buyer's issue.

It's called, "the cost of doing business." If you're trying to sell something, dammit, take the money however it comes -- cash, MO, PayPal, food stamps -- whatever. If the fees bother you, then price your items accordingly. Don't get mad at PayPal. They provide a great service and it ain't free. Hell, we don't complain about banks when they make 30% returns on OUR money (and some of us pay monthly fees for the privilege of getting screwed!), but we'll bitch to PayPal about a lousy 3 percent.

What the hell. I mean, everybody charges fees for services these days.

PayPal charges fees for the convenience and security that it offers. There is no other way to transfer money instantly that doesn't charge you. Western Union, bank wire transfer, they ALL charge for the service.

For me, when I sell, I want the money NOW and I want to ship it TOMORROW! I don't like waiting for a check to arrive, dealing with Post Office mishaps, cashing it, waiting to see if it clears. What a pain! I don't like tripping over my boxed up items. 3%, geeze. Most of the time, (unless you had a BIN that was too low) your selling price will be at least 3% higher due to offering PayPal.

When I buy, I like the knowledge that if something goes wrong, I have recourse for the full amount. I have proof of payment and the seller has a verified address to ship to. Both parties are protected. The only way I will do check/MO is if the deal is just too good to pass up (Hey Seller, there goes your 3%)

Maz, $33 for you buddy to be able to get the bike he wanted? He should have said, don't worry, just give me what's left after fees. That's nothing. If he had sold the OSU tix and waited for a check/MO, he wouldn't have been able to have the money on hand anyway.

PayPal offers buyer and seller protection that wouldn't be available otherwise. I just bought what was advertised as a mint Mexican Fender Stratocaster off of Ebay and the guy pulled a bait and switch on me and sent me a cheap, dinged up Chinese made Squier Stratocaster. Since I paid using PayPal I get to use their buyer protection service to get my money back. If I'd paid by check or money order there's not much I could have done about it other than leave the guy negative feedback. Big freakin' deal. Also, if you're a seller your chances of getting a higher price for your item is greatly enhanced by offering PayPal as a payment option because it allows buyers to use credit cards or PayPal's own credit line to pay for the item. I wish there was a limit on the amount they could charge but for most of the items I sell it's well worth it.

    Love PayPal.
Now my bank the charges me an overdraft fee right when they know my auto deposit paycheck is going to hit the bank account any minute - that's crap!!!
It's like someone is sitting thier waiting for the exact moment to clear something. SCARY!!!!!!
I had a credit card company that would hold my payment till it was late and then enter it in the system the very next day.......... Nothing i could do. Company had constant lawsuits against them. No big deal, they were raking in millions.
PS3 and HD Front Projection, life is good. Too bad Blu-Ray and the PS3 are already obsolete.....

Paypal is obviously the best alternative we have right now. And, yes I do know a thing or two about banking and the EFT payment system.

For those that think PayPal sucks, what do you suggest for an alternative? And, why the hell should PayPal do these services for free? Have you ever considered the regulator burdons placed on them?

They have extensive audits that cost them millions! Their fraud detection systems are massive. Their record retention of every transaction is for at least 5 years, maybe 7. What seems like a simple transaction or transfer of funds, is actaully quite a bit more involved.

Since I have been in this business now for 21 years, I have a professional opinion of them that I will share - they are actaully quite good at this!

I also think PayPal is convenient and secure as I've had no problems whatsoever.

Paypal is no friend of mine
They will take your dollars anytime
    Give me 2.9 percent
and dont forget the thirty-some cents

Now I have their debit card
They can spank me twice as hard
Their lawyers are at work all day
Dreaming ways to wisk your cash away

    Paypal floats bobs and weaves
    With confusion they decieve
But in the end its all OK
    Didn't need that dough anyway

RT, just don't avail yourself of their service. Pay by check, money order, wire funds, or give someone else your credit or debit card number. Best of luck with your fraud issues down the road...
