    Question Circuit City?

Anybody purchased anything from the new, online-only Circuit City? They have the best price I can find on seasons of Scrubs, so I'm ready to purchase. But I thought before I did I'd ask and see if anyone has done business with them since they've closed up the stores.

their brick and mortar stores have been closing.

    the internet side seems OK

but with anything it is always Buyer Beware.
probably somewhat safe using a secured credit card

Circuit City is finito as a brick and mortar place and are now strictly web. Your puchase $ are safe there. No different than CompUSA/TigerDirect.

So the consensus is that none of us have bought anything from the new site...WHICH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE OLD CC...it simply bought the right to use the CC name. CC does not exist anymore.

So the question is a legitimate one. Who are these guys and has anyone dealt with 'them'...of course exalted512 also has a POINT...!

Indeed, Cody has a point. Wait. Did I just admit that? Dangit...

I'll be ordering the first season from the new "CC" here soon.

I'd chance a $50 order. It is not like the name got sold to some Russian or China mafia, looking to scam the USA for a few months. CC got bought up by some serious USA investors & they flipped the name to a web based store. No different than what happened to Compusa/Tigerdirect. Compusa/Tigerdirect has been great since their transformation.

The Circuit City name was bought by Systemax, the same company that owns Tiger Direct and CompUsa now. I would expect about the same service. The website is almost a copy of Tiger Direct's.

    I buy alot off Amazon....
    all good so far.

some returns but that all went smoothly too.
just print a return label and then your credit card gets updated to remove the charges.

you end up going back and buying more stuff anyway.

I try to take advantage of the free shipping so end up buying more that what I need

    +1

I miss Circuit City brick and mortars so much. I used to love haggling with the sales people over price discounts on open box/clearance stuff. It was more like a swap meet than a retail store... probably why they went bankrupt.

Oh well, I'll find another source for my speaker shenanigans.

When I used to work at CCity we carried great products (Hitachi, H/K, Polk, Velodyne, JVC, Panasonic), then all the sudden we started carrying crap products. They took away commission and the sales staff got younger (because they could pay them less). After a while nobody knew anything about what they were selling or what the other guys were trying to sell because they got paid either way. That is why CCity went in the dumper.

People used to go there for a good product with quality customer service and you could always haggle with the sales staff, I had a good 3 1/2 years there, 18 years old making $65,000 a year. You can't beat that.

Priceless!!! How could that not have been funny, nobody has a sense of humor these days...

    Example of comm sales ticket:

    Hitachi 65" Hi-Def rear projection- $3600, $280 comm.
    Panasonic DVD Player - $200, $15 comm.
    H/K AVR? - $500, $40 comm
    Polk 5.1 system (random speakers) - $800-$2000, $70-$190 comm.
All the monster cable + power conditioner(it's good because it's expensive?!? LOL) - $600, $60 comm.

That's around $500 in commission just for one sales ticket and I'm leaving some things out. This wouldn't happen every day (mabye 3-4 times a week) but anyone that has sold A/V in a brick & mortar can attest to this.

Really though, I just graduated high school and was Med-boarded out of the Marine Corps (blown out left knee). I went there to find a regular job so I would have something to do while I went to school and I was told by the manager "sell me this calculator", long story short...he would have bought the calculator. They first threw me in the computer and cell phone section but I liked the A/V section more so I worked my ass off and eventually got to sell with the big boys. Me and two other guys kept the Joliet, Illinois store afloat. The three of us were in the top 10% in sales every month for the entire state of Illinois (they called it president's club). I would do installs on the side which helped with under the table income. In 2003 CCity went to standard pay and let all of us go with a nice fat paycheck each.

All that is over now though because I'm suckin' sand in the Army.

P.S. I was stoned out of my mind every day I worked in that place and nobody ever said a word. I really did like that place though

FWIW, I just bought a refurb Acer laptop from them for $299, free shipping.

I admit I was a little hesitant to buy from them as well, but it arrived exactly as advertised, and after almost three weeks, not a single issue. Guess they're
    for real?
