Yep, I'd say go for it. I've come across so many monitor series owners and they all seem to be very satisfied with their setup, and heard they're pretty easy to drive too.

The product info for the Monitor 50's are in the vintage product section of the Polk website:
    http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/p...ent/monitor50/

These are floorstanders - so one thing to consider is will they work in your daughter's bedroom? How old is your daughter? Do you think she will like floorstanders, or want more flexibility in room arrangement by getting some bookshelves?

Are you sure YOU want floorstanders in your daughter's bedroom! :D

As for the speakers themselves - I can't say - as I've not heard the Monitor line of speakers. Sure looks like a good speaker at a HECK of a deal!

    Just stirring the pot.....;)

Shes 12 years old. I think she would want floorstanders to be cool! have her friends come over listen music, maybe some chris brown or RB singers. there are plenty space in her bedroom.

I also found good price on rt800 or monitor 50. Why did you say am i sure i want floorstanders in her bedroom? becuz it would get loud or what? :D

Caligula, where'd you find RT800s? They are exceptional non powered towers, and work very well for HT. How much did you find the RT's for, because although the RT series are a much older speaker than the monitors, they're above the performance line imo.

If I got floor standers for my 13 yr old son, the 2nd floor would shake and we wouldn't get any rest! :D

If you're good with it, then sure is a sweet deal.

On paper the RT800s look to be the better speaker....but only you can decide based on cost vs performance.

If you are thinking about the m50's try hitting up polk direct...

    http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Polk-Aud...54689QQ_sopZ10

They have a bid out for a pair of m50's for 99, and 105 for the 60's. Never heard the rt's but I hear a lot of people like those m60's. The speakers will basically be new as well, not sure if your 140 deal from that guy was new or not.

Monitor 50s have same drivers (I think) as 40s, bigger box. Not sure about crossovers.

I mention this because people have expressed enthusiasm in varying degrees for 30s, 40s, 60s, and 70s---a lot for 70s---but not so much for the 50s, and I think perhaps the reason is expectations. As floorstanders they're a bit disappointing. If the sound were coming out of bookshelf speakers it would be more of a pleasant surprise.

Maybe this won't matter to a 12 yr old but I'd be looking at 60s or RTs.

(I owned a pair of 50s and upgraded fairly quickly to LSi9s---haven't heard RTs.)

    I haven't heard RT800is, I assume you mean the i?

Those have two 6.5 inch drivers and the tri-laminate tweeter and their specs compare favorably with both M70s and the Rti-8 and Rti-A5 series. So I'd say that that is certainly the better speaker...it's higher end and will give you more sound and possibly more detail..will handle more amplifier power, etc.

Now if it were my daughter. She wouldn't notice the difference...and the 800s are much bigger than the more compact 50s. Hlibert is right to an extent, the M50s are sort of like a BIG bookshelf in tower form. The newer TSI-300s add a bit more bass extension to the M50 design with the bottom ports!

I use TSI-300s in my office as a small 2.1 system set up that I like just fine.

Forgot to mention---the 50s are a little bit top heavy and tippy, imo.

Monitor series aren't too demanding and can sing without too much of a load, the RT series in my experience sound VERY nice, full and clear when watching movies and listening to music (my wife listens to it more than me actually), and I'm only running 70wpc from my Denon AVR.

"Would ONKYO Stereo High Fidelity Receiver TX-8255 take care of it?"

As you know much better than I, 10 guys will give 15 opinions on a question such as this, and the only opinion that matters is the daughter's.

Nevertheless---imo------fwiw---probably not much---I would say, no, 50 wpc receiver won't do a great job. I say this because my Yam 663, rated at 95 wpc but in 5-channel mode more like 40, wasn't great. Not much bass, lots of boominess, and on some tracks (e.g. old Jackie Mclean albums) the high trumpet notes were squeaky and scratchy and not very pleasant.

But I'm a cranky old guy; a 12 yr old girl might very well love it.
