    Default Reference Levels

I always see people talk about listening to things at "reference" so the question is, what exactly is reference level? Does it change depending on your gear/room size/source material? I know what level I find enjoyable but I'm just curious what this is.

how about the wiki information to describe some of the "reference levels" that are used then use the appropriate science references for additional information and confirmation.
