Default adding a second sub finally.

i'm looking to get a sub the end of this week. i have a jbl venue sub 10, which i like but i'd like to add another sub for the front of the room it's about 20 ft in length and about 8 ft in width. i was looking at the polk psw10 or this one http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=300-390 any suggestions would be helpful.

my vote is for the POL psw10

Polk Customer Service and their 'after the sale support' is a big factor

Not sure what jvc had to say (blocked), but I have 2 PSW10's and when set up properly I think they sound really nice for my entry level gear. My room is roughly the same size, maybe a little bigger. Good Luck!

I second the customer support. I really didn't know any companies would help you the way polk, and SVS does. By far the best 2 companies I have ever dealt with.

Your right about that....probably wouldnt hurt that your other is a jbl, but you just wont know until you try. If your really happy with the jbl, buy another, or buy 2 PSW10's and sell the jbl.

Don't know what you mean here. The Polk PSW10 is ALSO a 10"? The main difference is that the JBL, on paper, has more wattage? The JBL should also reach a little lower frequency? But you can adjust the volume levels to match.

The only thing you need to worry about is that you get all your bass in phase....see those phase switches in the back of each sub and play with them until you get the BEST sounding bass from both subs working together..

Well lets see what I am going to say....Sunfire. This is my answer to just about any sub question. LOL.

Since I don't know what type of system you have you most likely better off with the Polk or you might want to look into a Definitive Technology Pro Sub. I had a Pro Sub 100TL and it rocks. Goes down to about 18hz, is about the same size as the ones you are talking about and you should be able to pick one up for under $200.

Sunfires are good subs...but they ain't cheap even used.

You look like a giant Carver fan there thuffman? Nothing wrong with that...a lot more lurking.

Is that Def tech used? Also, some Def Tech subs don't give 'tolerances' so the 18hz may or may not be a usable frequency...I don't know one way or the other...not familiar with that model.

got the polk psw10. it sounds great with my jbl. still getting it tuned in. watching 300. not the best movie to test for bass, but it's not bad either. may check out transformers on bluray tomorrow. thanks for the help as well the suggestions. on a side note the haunting in conn. was a really good movie. but the true star was the the soundtrack. one word incredible.

Yes I am a giant Carver/Sunfire guy. Though I do love most high end audio. I have found that you get a big bang for the buck with used Carver gear.

Sunfire's can be gotten for a lot less than you think if you are willing to wait. I have seen many True Sub's go for in the $500 range on eBay. You need to be willing to watch and wait. BTW I got mine for $535. You are correct that most are a lot of $$$ but when one wants one for a specific price one can be found. The problem is that most people want stuff now. I can understand that. I have been waiting for my Sunfire True Sub for a long time.

As for the DT...I never had any sub that was rated at 250 watts that would rumble a room like my DT. And yes the price was for used. I got my DT Prosub 100tl about 8 years ago for 199+ shipping. That sub was my first buy on ebay. I recently traded it for some other equipment and the guy who got it sold it for $150. The going price IMO for a good condition DT Prosub 100tl should be between $150 and $200.

A sub that dips down to 18hz blows my mind for that price , I dont see how one can top that for a value performance ratio

Maybe thats the kind of deal I have been looking for

Just remember that you need to keep in context that I am refering to other 250 watt subs in compareson to the DT. That DT holds no candle to my sunfire. Were the DT would rumble a room my Sunfire rumbles the whole house.

No way that DT sub has any useable output at 18hz. Def Tech makes some decent stuff but their FR claims are just bogus. Even the DT Prosub 1000 which is $500 has dismal performance below 35hz.

The ProSub 1000's close-miked response, normalized to the level at 80 Hz, indicates that the lower –3-dB point is at 39 Hz and the –6-dB point is at 34 Hz. The upper –3-dB point is at 120 Hz using the LFE input.
