Onkyo HT-RC160 Receiver

Amazon put this brand new Onkyo receiver on sale for $379.99, I've been waiting for a 7.1 receiver to go on sale. This receiver has all the inputs/outputs i need, I was just wondering is 80 watts per channel ok? That seems kind of low and i was considering using the receiver to power the tsi100s, CS10, and some OWM3s. Is this enough wattage considering those speakers recommended power is 20-100 or so? I don't want to blow my new speakers!

That Oinker might be sufficient for medium to low volume levels in a smaller room, but then again, if the room is smaller why would you do 7.1? More important question is does it have preouts? Then you could add external amplification for at least the front soundstage and relieve the Oinker of having to drive all 7 channels, if it doesn't have the juice to do it.

Again, for lower volume levels, you shouldn't have to worry about blowing the speaks, but if you like to crank it up, have a large room, and/or want to get the most dynamics out of those speakers, plan for the future and get a receiver/pre with pre-outs.

Edit--> Looked at it over on Amazon, it does not have pre-outs.

Yamaha's power ratings are a joke. Non-Elite Pioneer is almost as bad. Denon is slightly overrated, while Onkyo, Marantz, and HK (in ascending order of rating conservativeness) deliver real watts. On the other hand, Yamaha and Pioneer do give you pre-outs at a lower price point than Denon/Onkyo...

Thanks a lot seeclear! I do like to crank it up and want to get the most out of my speakers although i have a relatively small room. I guess I will keep looking! I had heard people talk about preouts but never really knew what they did.

Also thanks mshan242700. I don't understand why all the companies don't deliver real wattage? It seems disrespectful to lie about the capabilities of a product.
