    Default speaker wire

I have been doing some research about speaker cables. I have read the 27 pages "cable theory" from Audio Quest! I am more confused now. I want to know if it is worth spending some money for good speaker cable. (I currently use basic Circuit City stuff with $ 25 banana plugs). Some people say it does not make any difference. Can anyone help? Thanks

You are brave zarrdoss! This sounds baited? Hopefully I'm wrong?

IMO, skyfrog, use the search engine on here, then come back with questions...you'll learn a-lot more that way and will not start threads that will end up in battle of lamp wire vs audio cable. Everything makes a difference, just depends on where you're at and what you want.

buy speaker wire accordingly IMO if you have $200 speakers don't get $200 wire again IMO.

List your system and I will tell you what cables will work the best.
I will tell you this , the cables you select for your system have a job to do. They need to do this job without flaw. You try to get as close to perfection of a conductor as you can. There is no "magic boxes" that make anything sound any better. There is no "Snake oil" that makes anything better. No magic anything. Pure science and spec will direct you in the right direction.
So the requirements of your given system will dictate which cable you will be using and I will explain each and every one.

Welcome, Skyfrog. Please list the equipment you have; it makes a difference on recommendations. Thanks !

    froggie,
Do as fishbones suggests and then plot a course according to your budget.

Since the OP is not responding I will with my setup. I could use some recomendations.
    2 x Monitor 70's Fronts
    CS 20 center
    2 x RM8 surrounds
I believe the sub is a PSW 110, I'm at work and can't remember honestly.
    Receiver is a Yamaha RX-V1065
360 and PS3 both hooked up via mediabridge HDMI
Currently I'm using cheap old speaker wire from an Onkyo HTIB. Any suggestions on what I should be using? I'm hoping new speaker wire will fix an intermittent crackling problem I'm having. Every so often for a split second I will hear some crackling. It has no correlation to volume or what is happening in the game/movie..it seems to be completely random.

Signal cable, Belden,Monoprice, even Home Depot for cheap 12 or 14 ga. wire. If you want to move up from there, the world is your oyster. Audioquest,Kimber, PCF, and a cast of thousands are available. At this point though, anything will be an improvement to the cheap cables from a HTIB setup.

    X,

I used audioquest stuff for the past couple of years and it treated me well. Because I wanted custom lengths with terminations I decided to try out Blue Jeans Cable. To say the least, I was more than impressed with the build quality, price, and sound. I'd highly recommend trying some of their cables before trying some ultra expensive stuff.

If you want to rent some speaker cable, or want to get some of the name brand stuff for lower prices, I'd check out The Cable Company.

Beaten to death, actually the horse has been pulverized by this type of discussion.

Get your search on. You could spend the 1st quarter of 2011 reading about wire discussion on this forum alone.

...or a carver vs adcom thread
...receiver to match my speakers thread
...speakers to match my receivers thread
    ...receivers to drive LSI thread
    ...and so on.

But this is an audio forum, and while I get as testy as you at times with the same questions over and over, it's the nature of the beast. The search button should be bigger and pop out on the page. Don't know why we can't do this, it may eliminate some of the this.

This is a very common answer on most of the forums I've visited. Duplicate posts and questions that may have been answered in a previous thread. I've used the search function here and on other forums and it's not always the answer. I searched here for speaker wire and speaker cable and got several "matches" that really had nothing to do with speaker wire. "Speaker" and "wire" were in the posts but not together. One thread was a multi page thread showing photos of the "guts" of members equipment. Some of us are fairly new to this forum and will ask questions that irritate longterm members but that's what the forum is for. If all questions could be answered by using the search function there would be far fewer posts. I get some very good information from discussions of topics that have been "beat to death"
You have an extensive knowledge of our hobby and Polk equipment and can be an invaluable source for those of us who don't. Try to bear with us.....we'll be very grateful.
