Not to mention his 'natural' appearance, coupled with the described neighborhood, they probably figured he was friggin HOMELESS!

Well according to his own statement he was just walking around looking at houses to pass some time before that night's show.

Maybe he was maybe he wasnt but I would be willing to bet a years salary that he wasnt looking for drugs. If he wanted drugs of any kind for any reason trust me he would hve someone else fetch them for him. 68 year old music legends dont go buying drugs on the street corner. :D

Bob Dylan may be legend to some but to me he is still that same anti-american nutjob he always was... never did care for his music or his views. I am inclined to believe he was looking to score some good stuff before the show. I could be wrong but a 68 year old pothead does not function with to many braincells.

Umm...Dylan isn't exactly anti-American. He's anti "bull**** that goes on in America". Just because he speaks out about the corruption that goes on in this country within our government doesn't make him anti-american...it makes him logical...and intelligent. Also...not gullible and willing to believe everything he's told.

Also...if Bob Dylan wanted drugs...I don't think he'd be wandering around on the street looking for them. He'd have one of his crew members score them. I have a feeling ole Bobby D's got a few connections that don't involve wandering around on the streets of New Jersey hoping to score something. I know plenty of potheads that are Dylan's age...they all function just fine, and have plenty of brain cells left.

He was probably just wandering around taking in a little bit of scenery and clearing his head. I'd have to imagine that living a life on tour like that gets kind of taxing after a while.

Bob Dylan is my idol. Sure, he's a nutjob...what's wrong with that? So are most musicians. I know I'm a nutjob.

I have plenty of people that I respect... presidents, athletes, actors, and musicians. I choose however to idolize none of them as there are none worthy of being held in such high esteem.

Well...I'm a guitarist that also happens to sing and dabble in the harmonica a bit. It kinda comes with the territory.

That and he's VERY widely considered to be THE SINGLE greatest songwriter of all time.

Agreed my point exactly. Even if he chose to use drugs there are any number of people who would be more than willing to get him anything he wants.

I own 19 Dylan LP's. He started by singing and playing Woody Guthrie style (who he idolized) who sang about the common man and his troubles. Perhaps he was just wandering around trying to feel that way again for just a few minutes. He probably enjoyed the time NOT being a celebrity for a change. Ya, he's weird but the man can tell a tale with his songs and has been writing recording and performing continuously for almost 5 decades. He is rich beyond my wildest dreams and yet he still tours almost non-stop. This man deserves respect for, if nothing else, being damn good at, and dedicated to his chosen profession.

Exactly...Whether or not you like Bob Dylans music, or his political views, you've gotta respect him. He's done things with music that very very few could ever even dream of. The fact that he's 68 years old, and is still putting out AWESOME albums to this day, says a lot.

IIRC, there are about 53 Dylan albums out there. That figure includes the "official" greatest hits compilations, but those are by no means the majority of those 53 albums. To most bands/musicians, 6 or so albums is a VERY full career. Dylans bootleg series has 8 volumes, most of which are multi-disc sets. Those are just full of stuff that wasn't good enough to make it on the albums(ha), and alternate takes of songs. The stuff that "wasn't good enough" is still incredible...some of his best work is on the bootleg series IMO.

As I said...whether or not you're a fan of Dylan, you've gotta respect what he's done for music. Very few could even dream of accomplishing what he has.

yes... I know who he is and what he represents to the vast majority of people. He is a true Legend, but then again so is Jane Fonda, and I don't care for her either. Just because someone is great in the eyes of the masses does not mean he or she should be thought of by everyone as being so. While I conceed that Dylan is a talented writer, I never did care for his singing style. To many he is just as legendary as John Lennon, and while I didn't care for Lennon's views either, at least he could carry a tune, and tell a story with his music that I could at least understand.

I do not have to respect him or anyone else just because of who he or she is in the minds of some, as some of you may not respect or appreciate some of the people I admire, but that in no way deminishes their accomplishments.

No one is asking you to like him or his music but to accuse someone of looking to purchase drugs when logic and reason and all the evidence is to the contrary because you dont like them is IMHO petty.

This thread was started not to discuss the mans personal life but simply in amazement that these young officers were not aware of who he was nothing more nothing less.

Yep,, he was out, getting a "feel" ,,picking up on vibes,,Dylan is like a cosmic sponge of sorts. If he needs anything, I'm sure he either picks up the phone, or dispatches one of his assistants to procure whatever. In other words,,he was out,"picking up a feeling". Just my .02.;):)

So you don't respect the fact that Dylan is one of the most accomplished musicians to ever walk the face of the earth? Wow.

In regards to not being able to understand him...that was a period in Dylans career. The vast majority of Dylans work is clear as a bell. Dylan has some work that is real crap...but that stuff is outshined tenfold by his gems.

Check out Desire, Nashville Skyline or Blood On the Tracks. You'll have absolutely no trouble discerning what he says. You might even learn a thing or two about the world.

You can't judge Dylan by hearing a few songs or a few albums. He has played basically every genre of music you could imagine. He's done folk, blues, rock and roll, jazz, country...hell, some of his stuff is borderline hip hop. Some of it rocks out really hard...some of it's mellow. Some of it is some good old swinging, good timing YEEHAW! music, some of it is some crusty sounding BS.

Not to mention that Dylan has played music with some of the greatest musicians of our time. Johnny Cash, The Grateful Dead, Willie Nelson and Gram Parsons just to name a select few standouts.

I don't care who you are...there are some Dylan albums that you would absolutely love.

I know who he is and I grew up listening to his albums and music on the radio. Never did care for it( nor did my friends) .Everyone haves there own taste in Music. I respect who he is and what he has done but never cared for his music. I would pick up a John Prine,Pete Seeger or Arlo Guthrie album before a Bob Dylan.
