Default Anyone watch the PGA Championship?

Congrats to Y.E. Yang, pulling off the win when Tiger had the lead going in to the final round.

I was rooting for the other guy, but Yang played a great round of golf and that shot on 14 was unreal, and the shot he hit on 18 was just ridiculous.

Did Tiger choke? I don't really see it that way, but one of the local radio guys this morning said that he thinks this will scar Tiger mentally and could have ill effects down the road.

I think Tiger struggled, but ultimately Yang just played a great round of golf and won the tournament. I don't know about the impact of his win on the game of golf that the CBS crew kept talking about yesterday, but the win is timely given the indication this week that golf is probably going to end up in the olympics.

Tiger just couldn't putt to save his life. He hit some great shots to help him win, he just couldn't line things up right yesterday.

I seriously doubt this will scar Tiger mentally. I don't know of a more mentally tough guy in sports. If he was really that weak mentally, he would have totally fallen apart on the course and not even ended up close to being in contention. I wonder sometimes if sports radio guys just say things to get people talking. Were you listening to The Musers this morning?

Tiger certainly didn't close like he typically does, but a choke? No. He couldn't make a putt and wasn't striking the ball well.

Sure, he shot 75 on Sunday - not good. But on 17 and 18, he fired at flags he would not have, had played better earlier, and still had the lead. Without the pressure from Yang, he probably shoots 73; not a good Sunday round from Tiger and still not enough to get it done yesterday.

Congrats to Y.E. Yang, and what an absolutely SICK approach (and birdie) on 18!

His ranking put him in 110th (or so) place. It was an underdog story for sure.
I've read what others have had to say about the guy and apparently it's his determination and his steel nerves that really make him a competitor on the pro level.

I thought Tiger played the final round pretty conservative until he fell behind. The wind really seemed to have him doubting every shot and what to do. I also think he thought if he played a solid safe round the rest of the golfers would fall back from him, given the conditions. But then Yang just kept hitting shot after shot and when he hit that chip shot for an eagle, umm wow!

I'm not a golf follower but I did watch the tournament yesterday. I seriously doubt the loss would scar Tiger mentally. He came in second in previous PGA Championships before, right? Yet he's always back in the thick of things year after year. Instead, I wonder about Y.E Yang's chances of winning another PGA Championship.

    Default Congrats to Yang...

This guy has a beautiful swing and nerves of steel. He'll be burnin' up the tour for sure in the near future, especially now because this will build his confidence. I enjoyed watching the pressure on Tiger. There is something hypnotic about seeing great performers under pressure. Great end to the tournament.

I'm playing today! It won't be televised but it'll be great!:D

That's just it though, I don't think Yang will do much else on tour. How many times have we seen this? Some guy comes out of nowhere and wins a major and he's all the rage, and then we never hear from him again. Ben Curtis anyone???

Yang is a great player I'm sure, and he had a great weekend, but if I had to put my paycheck on the line I'd bet he won't be in contention at ANY of the majors next year.

I guess I'm just not a 'root for the underdog' kind of guy. I wanna have a player that I can follow every week and root for over the long haul. That's my problem with these one hit wonders, they show up and win a tournament and get everyone excited and then you never hear from them again.

That's probably why I'm a Tiger fan, because in almost every tournament he plays in he's in a position where I can watch on Saturday and usually Sunday and root for him. I can't root for someone I've never heard of...

He must be doing fairly well as a golfer. That's a pretty nice house built within the past two years. (FYI - I am not violating any privacy laws or anything. All of this is public record with a simple search. Appraisal districts in Texas hold lots of information. That and I edited out the address, deed number, lot and block and anything besides his name.)

I agree though, he probably won't do anything else the rest of the year.

Or Shaun Micheel, Rich Beem, Paul Lawrie, Todd Hamilton, Ian Baker-Finch, Michael Campbell...just to name a few. An obsure golfer in the right place, right time and just happens to play the tourney of a lifetime. I predict Yang too will be a one hit wonder.

It was great day to watch Golf on TV. This is so good for the game, both for the far east, but more importantly, this should finally wake up the tour players to realize that Tiger as great as he is, can be beaten. One just needs to have the mental strength to play their game and not his and they can have the opportunity to win.

I don't know, I kinda see it another way...

It tells me that in order for Tiger to lose in that situation, he has to have 2 really poor rounds of golf and then you have to have a career day or days on the course to beat him. I know yang won by a couple chots, but if he doesn't hole that chip on 14 I think we're talking about Tiger winning his 15th today instead of Y.E. Yang.

Looks like we'll disagree on this a bit.

I grew up watching Nicklaus, Trevino, Player, Floyd, Watson, Norman, etc. Those guys weren't afraid or intimidated by Nicklaus, just healthy respect. Because of that, it was a great era to watch golf. For ten years PGA players have all but rolled over and died at the sight of Tiger. It all goes back to being mentally strong, Yang was and he forced Tiger to make the shots and drain the putts, instead of the other way around. Tiger needs the challenge in order to become the greatest of all time. Maybe now he'll get it from more quality players.
