Default Best coffee you have ever had

Since I was so lucky to have won a great Karma put on by NotaSuv I thought I would start a thread regarding coffee and perhaps get some ideas on new coffees to try out.

What is the best coffee you have ever tasted and what qualties did it have to make it so enjoyable? Also what was the worst coffee you ever drank?

The best for me was a peruvian organic by Gevalia full bodied rich coffee with a sweet aftertaste. The worst was a celbes kalossi by a local roaster incredibly bitter and acidic

And Thanks John my mouth is watering thinking about the new arrival :)

I spent most of my life in Seattle, so I've had a lot of really good coffee that wasn't Starbucks. One of my favorites is Terrefazone Italia, it's just a smooth cup with lots of flavor.

My least favorite is anything out of a can, or an instant out of a jar.

The coffee maker will make a terrifying difference. For example, good coffee in a bad espresso maker, with the wrong technique, will still taste pretty much like cr@p (and not really any better than bad coffee made under the same circumstances IMO).

Comparing espresso coffee with filter coffee or French press coffee is like comparing a boom box and a carefully constructed HT IMO. Since so few people use espresso machines, I'll assume this discussion is about filter coffee, so I don't consider myself a competent judge in this case, but I just thought I'd feed the topic a little bit, and stir up the pot, so to speak!

I know this will sound weird but this is the best coffee I have ever had. I did not know at the time it was from the kopi luwak. Kinda like a food that tastes really good till you find out what it is. And no it did not even have a hint of **** flavor, lol.

Greek coffee at a very nice authentic Greek cafe (it happened to be in Tasmania, but I'm sure similar quality can be found elsewhere).

Greek coffee is a bit intense, so not sure if that counts.

Laughing here for sure. Some mornings I'd rather have a Budweiser in the AM than a coffee :)

Gevalia is pretty impressive coffee. I used to belong to the club and I may start again. I use whole bean and grind my own for my Bodum French Press coffee maker. Great, fresh beans and the French Press syle equals great coffee everytime.

The best coffee I've had, was Elkins brand, which we discovered at a place called 'The Steak Place', in Chestnut Hill, Newton MA.
This was 25 years ago, so I doubt that place is still there!
    But I still remeber it.

Since someone mentioned the process is important.....the best coffee machines are from Italy. The best italian is the Gaggia. No discussion possible.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far guys. Jamican Blue Mountain is high up on my list of coffees to try and it is certainly considered to be one of the best there is. kopi luwak I would give a shot if I could buy a cup of it not sure I want to spend what it costs to buy a pound only to find out it wasnt as good as something else. I will put Terrefazone Italia on my list of coffees to try. And yes some of the Colombian coffees are wonderful a real delight to drink.

Eight O' clock coffee, French Vanilla. This is the coffee for me. No other flavors, no other brands. DD and SB's coffee makes me want to puke. All of them.

I believe the quality of the water makes a huge difference in taste also, if you are going to spend $10.00 or up past $100.00 for a pound of coffe why use tap water? It would be like putting ketchup on your Kobe steak IMHO.

The stuff in my thermos when it is 30 below and I am on the trail somewhere half frozen.
I usually order 5 pounds of North Pole Coffee, 'Black Gold' from Snow's town of Fairbanks, AK. Gotta support the locals and their efforts.
Enjoyed several good pours at 'Sir Wifred's' in Maui, and some damn fine cigars as well.

Worst cup of coffee was the one I would sit through in a strange kitchen trying to be a nice guy and not running when I saw what I woke up next to.

Worse coffee I ever had was that crap they brewed up when I was in the Army. We used to refer to it as "Lifer Juice." It was blended with chicory and just plain nasty.

I think Yuban is a good cup of everyday coffee.

Anything that has chicory in it should be outlawed, It is truly an awful additive.
