Subwoofer hook-up

I am trying to set-up my new Polk Audio sub model RM6750 to a Yamaha 6260 reciever, and I can not get any sound to come from the sub. I setup the rest of the surround sound with no problems and tried all the trouble shooting noted in the manuals?? I used a single RCA Monster cable run from the reciever's subwoofer alocated line out to the left RCA plug on the sub. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated! Thanks

Did you check the receivers settings to make sure a subwoofer is enabled? This is pretty common for some people to overlook. Btw Welcome to CP!

I agree...Most AVR's have the sub turned off as default.

I checked if the sub is on, but can"t figure out how to ensure it is on? The main screen shows the sub being detected but unsure if it is turned on? When I run the system setup it goes through each speaker and sets, but when it gets to the sub, no noise... any help is appreciated! Thanks for the responses!

Theres usually an additional switch on the rear of most subwoofers that shuts off power completely to the amp so ensure if there is one (usually a black flat toggle switch) that its switched on. There should also be an LED on the rear to display its current state (IE red for standby and green for ON).

The sub is powered on. What I am wondering is how to turn the sub on and off using the receiver?

If it has an auto-power on feature, the sub manually turns on when it receives a signal from your avr. After about 5-10 minutes (depending on make/model) the subwoofer automatically resumes "stand-by" mode until it again receives another signal from your avr. (AVR - being your audio/video receiver)

Also wanted to add, that if you were asking because you'd like to use your subwoofer for some sources/material and not all the time, simply select the option to Disable your subwoofer in the speaker setup of your avr OR turn it off manually on the rear of the sub.

with the rcs connection you need to turn the x-over dial all the way up, as you are using the x-over in your receiver. If that doesn't work, try the right input or even both with a "y" splitter. Try these with the sub fully on as opposed to auto.
If that doesn't work and everything is set up right on your receiver, try using the "option #2" with speaker wires, and see if that works. Note using 'speaker conn' you adjust the x-over on the sub.

The manual also says to set the receiver's x-over point to 120hz, if you can.

Not sure what else you could try besides making sure that you have the sub cable hooked up to the right connections. On the back of your AVR there is a hookup labled Subwoofer 1 and 2 in the section for your pre-outs. Make sure you have it hooked up to the connection for Subwoofer 1, and not the subwoofer hookup in the 7.1 mulit channel input section. Then make sure it goes into the connection Line IN L/R on the sub. Since the RM6750 subwoofer is part of the 5.1 HTIB and doesn't have a LFE input you will need a splitter at the subwoofer end to connect up to both the L/R inputs on the back of the sub. I have enclosed a link to the Y cable so you can see what I am talking about. Blue Jeans cable sells one for $10.00 (link included for that too, but there was no picture) you may already be using one of those, but hadn't heard it mentioned and like I said that is all I can think of that hasn't already been addressed. I have an old polk subwoofer. I tried line in and is does not work. Polk recommend to connect using speaker line instead of the RCA line in. Speaker line work, but I still can not understand why RCA in does not work. As long as it work.

Check receiver to see if the subwoofer output is on. Crank some juice into the signal from the receiver, otherwise adjust the level from the subwoofer. That about it. If that does not work, maybe you have a lemon or get someone that does know how to operate a receiver or subwoofer.
