    Question Blown Tweeters

    Hi all!

I have the Polk Audio RM6750B 5.1 surround sound speaker set. About a week ago an unfortunate accident occurred while my laptop was connected to my Onkyo receiver which caused all 5 tweeters to blow.

Are there replacement parts for these tweeters? I have pulled one out and it says on the back, "RM6000 (4 ohms)".

    Thanks,
    Mike

Being a holiday today, I figure to do that if I don't hear back from them in a day or two.

I would call them tomorrow anyway, email can sometimes take a while.

I just called customer service and the replacement tweeters are $24 each.

The guy on the phone was kind of shocked that I blew all of them. He said most people call in to order after blowing just one, or two at the most. I will NEVER use the "All channel stereo" setting again!

For $100 more, I think I'm going to just buy a new set of speakers.

    Thanks for the help.

Well, I just got an email response today and, since the speakers are still within the 5 year warranty period, Polk is willing to replace all the tweeters at no charge to me other than the shipping costs to their facility.

SWEET! I have always loved Polk speakers...and their customer service is tops as well. :)

Now you need to look into ways of preventing that from happening again.

What were you driving them with? It's not every day that you simultaneously blow 5 tweeters ya know.;)

I'm guessing they weren't getting enough power.

    Already done that. :)

I was watching a streaming movie from Netflix via my laptop which was connected to my Onkyo receiver for the audio. While I was adjusting a setting on the laptop the audio cable popped out about half way and created a sonic pop...and there went the speakers. Just a stupid accident. Oh, and I had the receiver set on "All channel stereo". Big mistake, I know!

It shouldn't happen anymore as I have purchased a Roku box to now watch streaming movies from. :)
