Thats one hell of a project Trey, the den has come together beautifully. Did you do the ceiling yourself? Sorry if I missed it in another thread.

Did you do the alarm install yourself?

Looks great! Can't wait to see what the kitchen will look like finished.

The alarm was installed by a company - it is free installation with the service.

The ceiling was done back in the 50's --- by hand! lol -- The bedrooms and the den are done like that -- it is really cool and unique. I like it alot -- but it is fairly fragile (plaster).

Thanks man. I gotta give props where props are due --- every outlet... light... is per Lightman Express. If it were not for Russ -- the room would not be near as awesome.

Nah - it is not fragile -- but there is a crack in the ceiling I patched the best I could -- plaster in general is just a little weaker than most -- one crack and it goes crazy.

The wife and I are supposed to be getting a new house soon and I've been looking into alarms, but don't want to have to get a phone line. Why alarm companies don't have something you can just hook up to a damn internet line is beyond me. Its freaking 2009.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the price for monitoring?

They charge like 30 dollars a month -- if the alarm goes off the police are automatically called basically - or if there is a fire...

But my security company had an option to plug it up to the internet. It cost like 60 dollars extra or something - but I have windstream which gives me a phone number by default - so they just used that. But they had an option for internet hook up.

So... definitely look into it - I believe I am using Broadview Security. Other than the 50 calls to confirm my appointment - they have been stellar.

That's who I use for my home Alarm but my price is $46 a month because I do not have a phone line, I use a cellular modem to connect to them and I bought the full warranty that covers everything, if I cut a wire they come and fix it for free.

I had it in my apartment before I bought this house, I closed on the house Feb 2nd, on Feb 15th my account turned 1 year old and I called them on the 16th to schedule the install in my new house. Because I was an existing customer for over one year I got $500 off the new install and a free keypad and free cellular modem, both would have been $200 each!

    So after doing 4 exterior doors, 8 Windows, 2 key-Pads I paid around $339.

When I installed it in my apartment the free installation was limited to 1 keypad, 2 doors and 4 windows. Anything after that I would have to pay for.

When I just moved in I accidentally tripped the alarm and 45 seconds later two cop cars showed up in front of my house with two huge young & muscular cops. I was like "Damn, you guys got here quick!" and they were like "This town is so small we were hoping there was somebody breaking in!!!" LOL!!!

As per your pics, I really like those cutain rods you have, where did you get them?, do you have a URL?

    Thanks for the comments guys!

The curtain rods came from Ikea - we have one of their stores in Charlotte.

The cable mess behind the game systems is not near as bad as it looks. It is fairly organized to where the power supplies have alot of room to breathe. But trust me --- it is alot better than shoving all those wires behind my old TV stand running on one outlet.

The color is actually like a burnt orange and it is pretty relaxing - the flash on the camera highlights it a bit --- but it is a very subdued color that makes the colors on the TV just pop out.

And yes we are going to run the cable wire through the wall - we just have to re-terminate it so we held off for a week or so on running that one. (See first post)

We were going for a very clean install for the HT stuff. All the 2 ch cables will be out in the open when I get that setup.

Coming along very nicely! I noticed in one corner shot your walls actually look pretty straight and true. Was this some of your work or were they actually still that straight?

    Thanks for the comments!

This house - although old is surprisingly straight and level. It is built like a tank. Each room has approx 1.75 of flooring as well - lol.

But yeah, most of the walls are really straight.

The master bedroom floor has a huge drop off for whatever reason but I plan on leveling that out considerably.

hehe -- he did an excellent job man..

That den has 75 amps of current available. 15 in the black/grey outlets. The outlets under the windows beside the TV each have their own dedicated 20 amp breaker. The Middle orange outlet is tied to the outlet for the tv and the wall mounted components for another 20 amps. So I will have plenty of current! :)

    Beat ya ;)

I've got my entire HT run off a subpanel, with two 20A circuits for the electronics, two more 20A circuits - one for the projector and another for the audio gear, then...

Two more 15A circuits, one for the sub and other misc. electronics, 15A dedicated A/C outlet and 15A dedicated space heater outlet.

Finally, two 20A circuits for Christmas lights and the such.

Nice going so far. Keep up the good work! Home improvement projects can be a PITA, but are worth it in the end.

FWIW, I use Broadview as well, and so far, so good.
Without going into too much detail, I pay $32/month for their monitoring service, and the system was installed free with a two-year commitment.

Plus, I must mention that most HO insurance companies (I use Liberty Mutual)
offer a nice discount for having monthly alarm monitoring; mine comes out to about $155/year, it's almost like getting 5 months free ;).
