Default Decided to go a different way for my HT setup...

It will be interesting to hear how this sounds when all is said and done.

Currently I'm using Polk SDA 1C for my fronts and Monitor 5b for my rear surround.

Power is a Denon AVR-2807, with front preouts to a Carver M-4.0t.

For new fronts I finally decided on a pair of AV123 X-Statik (B-stock). I based this primarily on remarks about them over at AVS Forum, Audioholics, the AV123 forum, and Danny Richie's GR-Research forum at Audio Circle (he's the speaker designer; has also designed for Usher).

Yes, I'm fully aware of the issues surrounding AV123, the company, and customer service, so we don't need to delve into that. ;)

The speakers garnered a "Best in Show" award at the 2008 Rocky Mountain Audiofest (scroll down, the Best Value Speaker award is towards the bottom of the page).

They also received a very positive review in The Absolute Sound.

For rears, I snagged a set of Magnepan MMGs on Audiogon with custom stands for $450 shipped. Should be fun to play with. I'll probably run the rear preouts from my Denon to an extra Carver M-1.0t I have lying about. Not as beefy as the 4.0t I use for the fronts, but shouldn't need as much for the surrounds.

Since I have a pair of dedicated subs to handle the bass, the (comparatively) limited low frequency response of the MMGs shouldn't be an issue.

Ahh, I've missed the fun of experimentation. ;)

Won't know until after I've compared and contrasted the various sets of speakers. At some point though, several pairs of speakers will be available, as I need to fund all this experimentation as well as free up some space.

Keep us posted when you get your new fronts - I'm interested to hear your impression of them...there's been good street buzz on these speakers.

And nice to hear from another M-1.0t owner - you should consider the mkII upgrade - worth the effort...makes this undersung model into a very well behaved *beast*. :)

H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music.
